    3. Hello Rod & Peter The birth registration of Catherine LEARY, born to Cornelius and Susan (nee COOK) LEARY on 29th August 1857, indicates that Cornelius was a private in the 12th Regiment. How common was it for VDL-born men to enlist in a colonial-based regiment? If it is unlikely, then this Cornelius may not be the child of Thaddeus and Margaret (nee McNEIL) LEARY.
