Hi Joy I can't help with military details, but I think it likely that the place your George Turner might have been born is Looe in Cornwall. This might help with locating a birth registration or baptism. The only other place I can think of with an 'oo' ending is Hoo in Kent! If you put Arthur George Turner into the Ancestry search fields with Looe as a place and a birth date of 1900 plus or minus ten years, the first hit is Arthur G Turner of St German's, Cornwall. The latter village is about 18 minutes' drive from Looe. Today's populations#St German's : 1427 and Looe 5280. Unforrunately he was born in 1920! However, if you look on FamilySearch (my preferred initial search and it's free), there's another Arthur George Turner born in St German's 20th March 1907. He has a third Christian name, but only the initial S is given. If this were your Arthur George Turner he would have been only 7 years old at the outbreak of WWI and I doubt if he'd have got away with lying about his age. There's an Arthur George Turner born 1897 in Bromley Kent, but nowhere nearby rhymes with Looe! He would be the best candidate age-wis. The answer to the whole research query depends how accurate your information about his name and place of birth are. LucyAnn
