Hi Greg, John Perkins is listed as a Labourer, Fellmonger and Tanner on his children's birth certificates. Appears to have lived at O'Brien's Bridge, Glenorchy through their births. Thee 1856 Electoral Roll has John Perkins occupying a house and land, White and Wright owners. (White and Write had a tannery at O'Brien's Bridge and a leather shop in Elizabeth St, Hobart.) Electoral Rolls up until 1874-5 have him in the same area. Then he disappears?? Hi Trish, Thanks for searching so far and wide for this elusive man - I only checked Tas. and NSW for his death, like, you to no avail. I will contact the Bathurst Family History Group - they may be able to help. I'm fairly sure the man in Tas. in 1830 and 1831 is the same man - there don't seem to be any other convicts anywhere of that name during this period. Joseph Bonney Senior absconded in Sydney c. 1814, if my memory serves me correctly. He then popped up in V.D.L., and Gov. Tom Davey wrote a letter to Macquarie asking permission for him to remain, which request was granted. I've been thinking that something similar may have happened with Jibb. I found runaway notices for Bonney in NSW, but haven't found any relating to Jibb yet. The thing that confuses me the most is the fact that I can't find any convict record for him in Tas. - seems very strange considering his crimes. I'm guessing he was sent to Port Macquarie after he absconded in 1831, and that's why he was back in N.S.W. later. Talk about the invisible man! Best wishes, Carol. -----Original Message----- From: symonds3 [mailto:psym8950@bigpond.net.au] Sent: Wednesday, 4 June 2014 6:54 PM To: AUS-TASMANIA Subject: Re: [AUS-Tas] John Jibbs/Jibb/Jebb Hi Carol, Are you sure John JIBB who was transported to NSW is the same man you have found in VDL? RE Gateway Baptist Church LAUNCESTON. I recently requested full details regarding the registration of the 1908 (January I think) marriage of Ada LUTTRELL and Alfred Ernest AVERY. Their reply stated they have Marriage records prior to 1895 and after 1910, but unfortunately the records for the period of time between those dates has been misplaced or may have even been lost. Would anyone know if those records are somewhere else please? I know I could pay $40 plus for a copy of the certificate from official sources, but am virtually cashless! The need to know what was written on the marriage certificate in relation to the parents etc of the bridal copy is because of the confusion created by the apparent union of Ada Isobel MANSFIELD nee STANLEY with an Ernest Alfred AVERY, resulting in total confusion for everyone who is researching both families, with an overlap of wrong deductions as to who was who! I know it is a long shot, but someone might just be able to offer a viable solution for me, I'm hoping that will be the case anyway, as are the descendants of Ada Isobel! Regards, Val Date

Hi Carol, On Trove item in The Australian (Sydney) 20 February 1847 notice of a Conditional Pardon granted to John Jibb ,Lord Melville 2. Not sure if that means he was back in NSW at that time. Rose
Hi Karlena, I already have a library card from the NLA and it's great, but there seem to be heaps more newspapers on the British Newspaper Archives site. It looks brilliant, but now not only can I not purchase a subscription, I can't even search for the snippet views I could look at free yesterday. This is after a stack of emails back and forth when I've changed my password, cleared my cache, done this, done that! They don't seem to think the problem is at their end, when a number of others are writing about the same problems as me on their Facebook page. So different to the NLA who rush to fix things as soon as possible, from my experience. And so frustrating, as I've found some wonderful snippets and can't read the articles in full until I subscribe. I have dozens of convicts in my extended family so I love the coverage of small regional towns the British Newspaper Archives gives - I've found much more on the few people I had a chance to check yesterday than I could find among the NLA's wonderful e-resources.
