    3. Hi all, when a child was baptised in the early 1870s in particular, who stated the name of the father, and/or mother of the child. Did said father & mother have to be in attendance, or could another family member say, just take them along & have them baptised. Or could the mother merely state the name of the father? And did the mother need to show any proof of marriage? I have tried to gooogle this but just get The Lord's Prayer. ( Hoping someone can help Cheers Sally

    3. Don, If you go to the TAS Research Portal and do a search on the Convicts....putting Lord Sidmore 1823 in the ship ID, then it will pull up a list of 58 convicts....then you should be able to cross reference against the list at the History of Australia site: http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=11 hope that helps, cheers, elaine On Monday, June 16, 2014 1:55 PM, Don Bradmore <djb100@mmnet.com.au> wrote: Dear Listers,  On 7 September 1822, Lord Sidmouth sailed from Woolwich, England, with 97 female convicts.  It called first at Hobart where it disembarked 50 of the women.  It then went on to Sydney to disembark the remaining 46 (one had died on the voyage) on 27 February 1823.  I can find a list of the total 96 convicts (see http://www.historyaustralia.org.au/twconvic/Lord+Sidmouth+1823) but I can't distinguish which of those were disembarked at Hobart.  Is there a list anywhere?    Can any kind soul help, please?  Don Bradmore, Central Victoria. ------------------------------- AUS-Tasmania Mailing List Website http://www.rootsweb.com/~austashs/ Contact Admin AUS-Tasmania-Admin@rootsweb.com Search the Archive (type AUS-Tasmania in the list box) http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-TASMANIA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    1. [AUS-Tas] Walter S. Edmunds 1836
    2. Chris Ward
    3. Walter Sayers Edmunds was the 3rd mate on the Lady Mary Pelham which arrived on 26 September 1836 from Liverpool and Kangaroo Island. The bloke died on 24 October 1836, after the vessel had left for the South Sea fishing grounds on 15 October, and was buried on 27 October by the Colonial Chaplain at St David's cemetery where his headstone still survives. Does anyone know where I could find his cause of death and/or his place of death. Do hospital records or coroner's records for that period survive? To the best of my knowledge he had no friends or family in VDL yet he had a headstone notwithstanding the fact that his shipmates had departed before he died. 3. Hello Gerald According to previous posts on this list, Walter's funeral is on TPI under EDMONDS and was on 27 Oct 1836 in Hobart District. Reg# 34. He has a Headstone in St Davids Park, Hobart, stating he died 24 Oct 1836. The site below "Pioneers and Settlers Bound for South Australia" states he died on the voyage, yet the "Lady Mary Pelham" arrived Hobart on 27 Sept 1836 after leaving Kangaroo Island. So it seems he may have been too ill, or already deceased, to continue sailing on the departure from Hobart on Whaling ventures. I cannot find a record of death or burial for Isabel Westbrook on the SMCT list, TAMIOT or anywhere else. Why is her headstone placed amongst the Queenborough Headstones? What information I have on this man is that he was born in Manchester about 1811-13 and that is not guaranteed Married Elizabeth Hanslow in 1843 had a huge bunch of kids and died in 1894. Looking for immigration details etc the only reference I can find is to a convict James Metcalf. Is he the one? If so is there a permission to marry Elizabeth Hanslow? I could not find one. Relying on those that are far better at this then me [I once thought I was ok] but you also have better resources at hand. TIA Greg --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
