    1. [AUS-Tas] CON32 Supplementary volumes
    2. Douglas Burbury via
    3. Hi List, There has been mention on this list quite some time ago, but ... if you've ever been looking at a conduct record for an assignment system convict (CON31 for males and CON40 for females), and the guy or gal has been so norty that the page allotted to them is full up, you sometimes see written at the bottom something like "See Supplementary Volume XXX no. yy". This is a direction to the supplementary volume where all the rest of the conduct record for that convict is written up. For male convicts, the supplementary volumes are recorded in the CON32 series. I haven't been able to find which series the supplementary volumes for female convicts is contained in, or if indeed they exist. The good thing (which I just discovered) is, the CON32 records (supplementary volumes for male convicts arriving during the assignment system period) are also available online on the Tas State Archives (LINC) website, among all the other online convict records. http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/default.aspx?search=1 Douglas

    3. Has the website for Graves of Tasmania changed? Previously I have been able to check the website for family graves, this seems to have changed. Recently I checked the website, so I could send the address to a distant cousin, and I could only find graves of World War 1 and 2 casualties mentioned. Has something changed? thank you, Patricia

    2. Lorraine Wootton via
    3. Elaine - There is a chapter entitled 'The Goninons at Beaconsfield' in "Way back When - People Places & Events - stories of early days of settlement of northern Tasmania" written by Dot and John Beswick. Briefly, Henry GONINON and his wife Mary nee ELLIS were among many who migrated from Cornwall to follow mining, going first to Victoria and SA and in 1878 the family arrived in Tasmania, joining the Tasmania Mine at Beaconsfield in 1880. Dot Beswick is a great grand-daughter, has done a lot of research and helped organise a family reunion some years ago. They live on the West Tamar at Deviot and you should be able to find them in the white pages......Lorraine. -----Original Message----- From: Elaine Jefferson via Sent: Friday, August 01, 2014 6:09 PM To: AUS-TASMANIA@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] GONINON families Could any one help with this name please Hilda Williams married John Thomas Goninon 1918 at Burnie His wife Hilda died 1928 with thanks to TROVE she had 4 girls and according to John T Goninons will they are Hilda Doreen of Somerset Shirley Dawn of Burnie Joan Ellen Fay of Melbourne Patricia Mary of Ulverstone Haven't a clue as to the where abouts of this family. 3. Hi Elaine, which family are you looking for? The daughters married names are given in his will ie HIlda Doreen Stewart etc which should make it easier to find them. Have you searched the newspapers for deaths and marriages? for instance - http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/68965000?searchTerm=%22Robotham%20Goninon%20%22&searchLimits= is a report on the marriage of Patricia Mary Goninon to Reginald Thomas Robotham. Also the Goninon name appears a dozen times in the Northern Tasmanian phone book so there are still some about. cheers Sally in icy Tas -------------------------------------------------- From: "Elaine Jefferson via" <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 01, 2014 6:09 PM To: <AUS-TASMANIA@rootsweb.com> Subject: [AUS-Tas] GONINON families > Could any one help with this name please > Hilda Williams married John Thomas Goninon 1918 at Burnie His wife > Hilda died 1928 with thanks to TROVE she had 4 girls and according to > John T Goninons will they are > Hilda Doreen of Somerset > Shirley Dawn of Burnie > Joan Ellen Fay of Melbourne > Patricia Mary of Ulverstone > > Haven't a clue as to the where abouts of this family. 2. symonds3 via
    3. Hi Elaine, Is there some connection I've missed between George and Tasmania for you to be posting to the Tas List? You might have better luck posting your message to the NSW List - http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-NSW.html With such a common name as George REID, I think you will have to purchase an official certificate to establish a few facts. NSW has three licensed transcription agents who can provide certificates at a cheaper cost than going through the Registry Office - Marilyn Rowan, Joy Murrin and Laurence Turtle - http://www.transcriptions.com.au/ http://www.joymurrin.com.au/ http://home.iprimus.com.au/lturtle/ Information on the NSW marriage certificate will give you George's birthplace, as well as the names of his parents and his father's occupation - the names of his parents will help find his death in the indexes. Here's an example from Marilyn Rowan's website - http://www.transcriptions.com.au/images/marriage.pdf Divorce in the newspapers - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13944242 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article108889978 Funeral notice for Rita BLUNT (her husband died 1950 and it looks as though he never remarried) - unfortunately I couldn't find a death notice for her that may have mentioned if her father was alive or deceased - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article16521183 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article18158415 There was a funeral notice for Margaret, daughter-in-law of George and Susannah REID of Ann Street, in 1891 - same family? http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13828352 Funeral notice for Susannah REID of Ann Street, in 1906 - with sons George and Andrew - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article14823426 The daughter Ada Rose REID had a son Cecil George BLUNT, born around 1893 (aged 23 in 1916) - his next-of-kin was his father Henry Ernest BLUNT, and there is a letter on his file signed by his mother Ada. The family was living at Bridge Road, North Ryde, during WW1.
