I am interested in finding out some information about the above property and where I can obtain a photograph please. I believe it was possibly once a National Trust home, but cannot confirm this for sure. Sandra (Launceston)
Hi Heather, I'm reasonably sure that if no bodies were recovered, legally people were not accepted as dead for 7 years, no matter who 'saw' them disappear. I may be wrong of course, but have recorded people remarrying after 7 years of spouse not being sighted for that period of time. cheers Sally -------------------------------------------------- From: "Heather Minol" <minol@ozemail.com.au> Sent: Thursday, August 14, 2014 2:10 AM To: "narnty" <sallynolan531@hotmail.com>; <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [AUS-Tas] Looking for record of death in Macquarie Harbour 1878 > Hi Sally, > > Thanks for your reply. Hi Sally, Thanks for your reply. I don't believe the bodies were ever recovered. There was one survivor who witnesses the deaths though. This was Arthur Lloyd. The names of all who drowned were known, so I don't see why the deaths would not have been recorded...maybe I'm looking in the wrong places! Hi All My original ancestor Patrick Clancy Snr came to Australia aboard the vessel Eliza in 1849, he was a retired military pensioner who was a guard on the Eliza. He bought with him son Patrick and 3 sisters, we knew one girl was Mary haven't been able to confirm which one until recently. I have now made contact with Mary's descendants and so one more brick wall tumbles. Still looking for the other two daughters. Mary married Thomas (Joseph) Murphy in 1855 at Oatlands. On Mary's marriage certificate one of the witnesses was Ellen Clancy hopefully another sister. Wondering if SKS could do a look up for a death or marriage for Ellen Clancy after 17 June 1855. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Laine Clancy
Hello Listers, I have in my family tree a Mr. Thomas Herbert Pitt, born 27 October 1880 at Deloraine, son of Francis Pitt and Marianne Rooke. Francis Pitt was a son of Philip Pitt of Clifton Vale. I am having difficulty in determining his history after birth. There are two or three T. H. Pitts in Tasmania at the time, but I am having difficulties in making the connections to my T.H. Pitt. Hoping that somebody can assist with identifying him. John Hammond PO Box 551, Clayfield 4011 QLD, Australia Mobile: +61 419 648 649 Home: +61 7 3268 5781 E-Mail: jhammond@iprimus.com.au
Hi Heather - I could not find a record of an inquest. Were the bodies recovered? I have often found that when an inquest was held the death was not always registered. If the bodies were not recovered then there was probably no inquest? Cheers Sally >
Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone is able to tell me where I might be able to find a record of deaths by drowning in Macquarie Harbour on 4 - 5 May 1878. No records for Strahan exist at this time as far as I am aware. I would have thought by 1878 it would be required for them to be registered somewhere though. The story was written up in various newspapers at the time, as one of the party, E Richall Richardson, was a noteworthy figure. They also featured in accounts of the West Coast that appeared years later for example, Zeehan and Dundas Herald (Hobart, Tas. : 1890 - 1922), Thursday 2 February 1893, page 4, but I have not been able to find any official records of the deaths. Four men were drowned, including my great grandmother's brother, John O'Donnell, aged 20. The other victims were E Richall Richardson, John McAuliffe and Miles Ashmore. The only survivor was Arthur Lloyd. I would be very grateful for any suggestions/information. Kind regards Heather Minol Canberra

Please could some-one help me with Andrew John Edward Rose b abt 1894 married Phyllis Evelyn May Fazackerley on 7th March 1921 at Dover Tasmania. Phyllis was born abt 1903 and died 18th July 1933 and buried at Dover Tasmania. I am trying to seek information re their daughter Alice Edith Rose born abt 1924 at Dover and married Cyril James De Belin in 1946 at Hobart. Did Andrew re-marry after Phyllis died? Was there any other children to Phyllis and Andrew? Does any one know what happened to Alice after she left Cyril and their 8 children? The children were all young when Alice left and were put into Welfare care. Janet Zeuschner
Hi Susan, There is a death at Launceston of William Archer DOWLING, 21 September 1937, aged 87 (in his 88th year) so the year of birth 1850 fits. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article52161067 There is a listing at Carr Cemetery in Launceston for William DOWLING, aged 87, buried 22 September 1937, location B15 no 394; I couldn't find any obvious wife nearby. His will is at Tas Archives, but I couldn't open it online - http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=9 Also at Tas Archives, Colonial Families Index, William Archer DOWLING, born 1850, son of Henry DOWLING and Eliza TAYSPILL; siblings Robert (1840), Sarah Tayspill (1844), and Susan Jane (1846). Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Is it possible to find out the death of someone in the mid twentieth > century? I am looking for the date of William > Dowling’s demise. (1850-1930?) > Susan

I am looking for information about Earl Richard STUART. I know that he married in 1959 in NZ to Janette Robina ROBERTSON. Have been advised that he died Dec 2000 in NZ, aged 66 years, so that makes his birth around 1934 in Tasmania????? Looking for his parents names and/or any other information about Earl Richard STUART. thank you, Rose

Hi Listers, Further to my request below, Its long been my hope to have the area of Dawson Road heritage listed with the emphasis on the convict links to that area, which I might add are quite extensive. there has been some good people marking sites and etc with GPS fixes that will give great detail to the application. My request is for any information that would add to this project is most welcome, hence my reason for seeking convict detail. with thanks Best regards Tas -----Original Message----- From: Tas Browning via Sent: Wednesday, August 06, 2014 9:54 AM To: aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] Fw: advice please/ From: tasarb10@hotmail.com Sent: Wednesday, August 06, 2014 9:17 AM To: aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: advice please/ Hi Listers, in regards to my research of the history of the Dawson Road, it was built by convict labour, ad in part of that, there is unmarked graves in that area.
