Hi Elaine, The Tasmanian Family History Society Inc., Hobart Branch have published, in two volumes, an indexed listing of the known records for Queenborough. However someone at the branch has suggested to me that they might have missed a record. You would need to compare what is listed with the TAHO records. What available at TAHO can be found when you search throught this site and enter the words queenborough cemetery in the basic search box... http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/default.aspx?search=1 Using the Funeral Records indexed and publishe, again by Tasmanian Family History Society Inc., Hobart Branch, may help solve your query? I hope this helps, Cheers, Maree On 27/08/2014 5:16 PM, Elaine Jefferson via wrote: > Can any one tell me where the burial are held? Good afternoon Listers Jessie Isobel McKenzie married Nicholas Shady, date unknown but probably in the 1930's.Nicholas served in WW2 and after that they settled at 8 Dry St Launceston North. The latest date I have them there is in 1954.(Electoral Roll) I believe they had at least 2 children. Jessie died in 1998 Nicholas died in 1990 and they are both buried in Car Villa I would welcome any suggestions as to how I could fill in more details for this family - they are deceased - would I be able to get death notices?, or totally an optimist some one who is also researching this family line. If anyone is looking for their own forbears in the Car Villa Cemetery would they have time to see if there are headstones for the half dozen or so Shady family members who are buried there. Many thanks Marcia Penny
I am hoping some one may be able to help with the following Irene Williams daughter of James Frederick Williams and Irene Smith Ablethorpe born about 1916 this could be wrong and upon downloading a will for Anthony Silas Parsons, he mentions his defacto wife Irene Ablethorpe Rice Found a death date for this Irene and it seems she is with Anthony at Millingtons. My question is who is Irene and who did she marry first time and would there be any children to her? There is a son mentioned in Anthonys will but goodness knows if he is the child of Irene Won't know till I get to read their obits when that will be I don't know, If any one can help would be great Thanks ELaine
Hi List, Just came across this in the Trove newspapers, posting in hopes it may belong to someone - The Sydney Morning Herald, 10 March 1866 - Marriages - On the 7th instant, at the York-street Synagogue, by the Rev A.B. Davis, assisted by the Rev A.A. Levi, Mr MORRIS BENJAMIN, son of the late Mr Henry Samuel Benjamin, of Hobart Town, to MARY ANN, eldest daughter of Mr ISAAC ISRAEL, both of West Maitland. Cheers Trish, Nowra NSW
Hi Listers, Thankyou very much to those who assisted me with my last enquiry. I am very grateful for your help. I have another request for help with finding any information on the following three people. 1. I have been having problems finding information on twins, Zoe Elizabeth Izard and Zena Izard. Daughters of George Edward? Izard and Clara Langley. From what i have found so far, they were born either in 1911 or 1912 in Tasmania. According to family members, there is aboriginality in the family but research so far has revealed no links. Suffice it to say that Zoe's daughter says that Zoe and her brothers were all aboriginal looking. We are wondering if the lack of birth details for the twins would have any connections to this fact. 2. The second look-up I would like to ask help for is to find information about a woman called Margaret Gorman who was married to a Sherwood in Tasmania. I have been able to find nothing so far. 3. The 3rd person was Elizabeth Long? married to Edward W Sherwood, the brother of Margaret Gorman's husband. Elizabeth's surname was not very clear on the headstone, so we may be reading it incorrectly. We have information about the Sherwoods, but need to find information about the wives. I also want to say that I think you all do an amazing job and are very generous with your assistance. If ever i need a detective, I shall come here first. with thanks in anticipation Liz If you say you understand, then you must take responsibility. If you do not take responsibility, then you do not understand. Elizabeth Russell-Arnot. June 2005
Hi Listers Does anyone on the list have a particular interest in the ship 'The Lindsays' which brought Irish free settlers to Hobart in June 1832? Most of these immigrants came out to work as 'indentured servants' at 'Fenton Forest', the estate of Captain Michael Fenton, at Glenora. (Please forgive me if this query seems to be similar to one I forwarded last week. I'm hoping that specific mention of 'The Lindsays' this time might jog some memories.) Best wishes, Don Bradmore, Central Victoria.

Hi Listers Many thanks to Peter and Helen for their generous replies to my query about the Irish families brought to VDL by Captain Michael Fenton (1789-1874) as farm labourers on his estate, 'Fenton Forest', in the early 1830s. As Peter points out, most of them arrived on the vessel 'The Lindsays' in 1832 and seem to have lived happy lives as the Captain's tenants for decades. However, relatively little seems to have been written about them. People who are interested might like to read a short item in 'The Courier' (Hobart) on 10 December 1851, page 3. It describes a 'picnic day' attended by the tenant families and illustrates the deep regard they had for the Captain. Helen reminded me of 'Mrs Fenton's Journal' which is available online at https://archive.org/details/journalmrsfento00fentgoog but her account finishes before the tenants arrived. Don Bradmore, Central Victoria.
Mrs Fenton wrote a diary which is online and interesting. Just put " Mrs Fenton's diary" into Google. It might contain some information about workers. Hi Don, Further to my earlier email. (sorry forgot to send to list) The Irish tenant families that Captain Fenton bought out with him arrived on the ship "Lindsays", 28th June 1832. If you go to the TAHO names search for arrivals - http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=91 and enter Lindsays into the ships name and 1832 into year of arrival you will get a list of 45 names including the Fenton's. This should give you a very good jumping off point for extended research. Mike Waverley Park Farm of around 450acres was originally owned by William Murray. I believe it was on the Cambridge Road, Kangaroo Point. He leased the property to Alfred Desailly c1860-1863 and advertised in 1863 To Let - with a ten room house, out buildings etc. Adjacent to the market. ref: Mercury 30/3/1863. Hope this helps. Robin, Where was this homestead? There are many photos of early Bellerive about, but they may not reference the homestead in the attached information.
