    3. Dear List, after nearly 5 months away in Queensland I am back in my little nest, its always good to come back to my favourite place. I am looking for the family of Grooms, James Charles and his brother Francis and wondered if anyone knew if there has been a book written about this family. They lived at Hayfield Cullenwood and Gaiters at Leffey Rivulet. Anything information would be appreciated. 3. Hi Mabel, if you use the link to go to the search page, look to the right of the search area and you will see two circles - you need to click on All. You actually need to do this for each new Search, otherwise it is just searching through the current 'results' You can then narrow it down to years, or convicts or births or whatever by using Include or exclude in each category. Or you can just use a first & second name. It then allows you to go through the ones that are left which go directly to the page you want. As Douglas said - you no longer have to go through by trial & error. In the case of say a Mabel Smith - it will also throw up births under her married name. It is fantastic, I have already in a few hours covered areas I have been unable to get to for years. cheers Sally -------------------------------------------------- From: "Mabel Harvey via" <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2014 10:43 AM To: "Douglas" <douglas@burbury.net> Cc: <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [AUS-Tas] Tasmanian Names Index - LINC - TAHO > I must be doing something wrong as went to the link and what ever family > name I put in it keeps telling me know results. this can't be right as I > have seen results on the old site. 3. Hi Paul, It would appear not. There is a gap in the records of the Launceston Court of Petty Sessions records held by LINC in Hobart between 1848 and 1914. What they do have can be seen from the following: http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/default.aspx?detail=1&type=S&id=LC346 The digitised records on the FamilySearch website appear to mirror the LINC holdings up to 1847: https://familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A%2F%2Ffamilysearch.org%2Frecapi%2Fsord%2Fwaypoint%2FMJ25-JWL%3A1048366701%2C1048419901%3Fcc%3D1935075 Douglas On 2/10/2014 11:42 AM, Paul Booth via wrote: > Hello List, > > Just a very broad question to begin with. Perhaps the book Anthony referred to would clear up who raised his son's children. 3. Hi Karen, I've only been able to access hard copy versions of the Rolls at LINC Hobart (the old State Reference Library) I understand that a couple of stray volumes are available to view (1858 I think ) on a couple of website but you have to subscribe to them. Some also appear in the Tasmanian Govt. Gazettes which have gone online but again I don't know how comprehensive they are. I've heard a little birdie rumour that TAHO and the Hobart City Council will be joining forces to digitise the known Valuation Rolls available but how far down the track that will be I cannot estimate. 3. Hello Elaine I am inclined to think that the 19 children cited in the Obituary is an error. The book "Wagner - 130 Years in Tasmania" by Alma Ranson only records fourteen children too. 3. > Seems that I might be missing 5 children....and if SKS can help me to > identify > them, I would be very grateful! Hi Elaine, there are 11 children registered to Chris* Wagner & Laura Hannah in the TPI .The 3 girls Clara, Ada, & Laura not being registered, which makes the 14 you mentioned. > Laura Henrietta Wagner 1883 – 1968 - at 13 yrs old she wrote to Flamingo in the Examiner saying she has - 9 bros & 3 sisters in 1896 -and six cows. This ties in with the known facts, one brother having died in 1893. His wife Laura Hannah or Hannah Laura appears to have died 10/5/1917, aged 68? but his will states he left his estate to 4 sons & his widow - named as Laura Hannah- written I think in 1909 I cannot find the obit for him you mention- apart from various reports on his death which state that a family member accidently gave him poison. Perhaps these 5 children could have been born to another woman after Laura Hannah's death.? or As I can't find the obit you mention perhaps there is an error in this or the transcription of it? cheers Sally PS All but 1 registration has him as Christopher or Christy Henry, one son was named Christian. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Elaine Hanford via" <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 01, 2014 2:27 AM To: "AUS-Tasmania Roots web" <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Subject: [AUS-Tas] Help finding some missing Wagner children > Dear Listers, > > I'm working on the family of Christian Henry & Laura Hannah (nee Hawke - > spelling varies) Wagner. > > His obituary notes that he "reared a family of 19"... but I have only > found and documented the following 14 (I have posted all to Ancestry.com):

    3. Thanks much for reminding me about the "obit" being a Notice of Condolence....my mistake as I put it in the obit remarks in my file. Unfortunately, living in Nevada, I do not have access the the book on the Wagner family that Anthony referenced. Such are the constraints of doing long-distance research! But I am so very grateful for all the listers who give so kindly of their help!! Cheers, Elaine TAS Descendant in Reno, Nevada On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 7:31 PM, narnty <sallynolan531@hotmail.com> wrote: Hi Elaine, it is not strictly an obit. A Notice of Condolence was made by the Council and at the following meeting the remark referring to the "19" children was made by a Councillor Ryan. Perhaps the book Anthony referred to would clear up who raised his son's children.
