Hi Gail, I note in your post you've proven that the convict Thomas Dennis/Dennersfield was NOT the man you seek. Its just an interesting note that that individual was recorded of an offence in the Fingal lower court in 1861 - http://stors.tas.gov.au/LC143-1-3 pg 309. Given that Thomas Dennis' family was at Falmouth, Fingal, Cullenswood, St Marys and this event takes place at Avoca its easy to see how someone who was answering such a post would jump to the conclusion it was him? Thomas Dennis is certainly not the most common name in such small area as the Fingal Valley!!. Hope someone can come up with information you need to prove who your man's origins? Rod I just noticed that there is an army record for this chap that I mentioned in my first reply as I see although it apperars he inlisted in Sydney it says POB was Tasmania and next of Kin was Rosina Appleby, so looks like the chap I mentioned so even if he isn't yours may be worth a look to completely rule him out and also if not yours there could be a connection eg a cousin or something link: http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=3034524 Mabel On Sat, Nov 22, 2014 at 11:46 AM, Mabel Harvey <mabel.harvey@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi Rod > Bit earlier than 1900 but there is a Thomas William APPLEBY born Hobart > 1890 on the LINC Tasmania site. Hi Rod Bit earlier than 1900 but there is a Thomas William APPLEBY born Hobart 1890 on the LINC Tasmania site. His parents were Thomas APPLEBY and Rosina BOCK. Birth registered by the Grand Mother. Hello List Is they anyone out there that may know what happened to BERTRAND SMITH (born 03/02/1876, Reg Sorell) son of Henry Smith and Lucy & Lucy Ann Kingston the last I knew of him, was he was mentioned in an article about the Bream Creek Sunday School Annual Feast on 09/01/1887 (he was abt. 11 years old then). If you can throw any light on the subject, I would love to hear from you please. Sue
I note that this John Bailey per Atlas is in departures 1851 and 1852. Looks a though he took a couple of trips between Launceston and Victoria. I think these trips were for one that many people did in that period. Going to the gold fields in Victoria to seek their fortunes !!. Hi Elaine, According to the birth registration of Mary Ann Bailey in 1845, the family was living at Lyttleton Street, Launceston - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-23-p793j2k. Consulting the census for 1848 we have a John Bailey record as living at Lyttleton Street - http://stors.tas.gov.au/CEN1-1-95-194 It appears there were two married couples living at this address but both the married males are recorded as "other free persons". So I think your John Bailey was an ex-convict. Though he said he was free in his "Permissions to Marry" Sarah Diver in 1843 it was in the sense that he had become "free by servitude" from his transportation sentence. Could possibly be this man who was born circa 1805 and was a Stone Cutter (your John was stone mason) - http://foundersandsurvivors.org/pubsearch/convict/chain/c31a31050249 Cheers, Peter On Fri, Nov 21, 2014 at 9:04 PM, Elaine Jefferson via < aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hi once again, This time I am in need of help if anyone can find info > on the following person > > John Bailey born some where in this world arrived either Hobart or > Launceston aboard the Emma Eugenia but which voyage? Hi Rod, can't locate a birth for a Reginald, or even an unnamed male in or around 1915. There is a mention of a youth named Reginald Hubert Appleby of Ulverstone mentioned in the Advocate in 1921, but your boy would be too young. This Reginald doesn't seem to be registered either, however his NAA records show his birth as 1905 in Ulverstone, nok George. He enlisted in Melb. cheers Sally -------------------------------------------------- From: "rod via" <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 21, 2014 7:28 PM To: "Aus TAS" <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> Subject: [AUS-Tas] Reginald Appleby > Could some please check the birth index for a Reginald APPLEBY abt 1915 > and another children to his parents > Any assistance would be most appreciated > Rod
Hi once again, This time I am in need of help if anyone can find info on the following person John Bailey born some where in this world arrived either Hobart or Launceston aboard the Emma Eugenia but which voyage? He wasn't a convict but arrived as a free settler He married Sarah Driver or Divar as some records show She was the convict Married 1843 Launceston 4 kids 2 lived Victoria, but that is not what I am after I am after any ideas how or where John Bailey came and from where. His age seems to vary between 5-8 years I have his birth as being 1804, perhaps that is wrong, and the Tassie certs don't show parents not much help there either I have looked on Ancestry in the hopes some person uploaded the family, but unfortunately the person who did has since died. I have sent 2 messages in the hopes the spouse might see it, but nothing Have tried the new LINC for this person, He never left a will, not Sarah She was a drunk according the Trove newspaper article ! She died 1860 and John 1884 I am now wondering if he remarried, if so, to whom? Would love some help here after maybe 15 years trying to figure out this John Bailey Thanks for anything Elaine

Peter, well spotted, your blood's worth bottling. I knew there were "4 others" buried in that Queenborough burial, and I had three of them, but didn't look hard enough for Eliza Wheelwright. I'd say Eliza is my Eliza TILLEY, and the marriage will no doubt be found on the mainland somewhere. Eliza Tilley arrived on the Borneo (with her mother) in 1828 and then she was supposedly 15 years of age so being 76 at the time of her death in 1896 could fit. AS you say there's not much obviously that is linkable to her, so I'll just keep looking. I'm still not convinced this Eliza Tilley is the correct mother, but it looks like a possible. Thank you again Peter for the link and the prompt . Cheers Dave Cripps -- David Cripps, Tasmania <cripps@netspace.net.au>
