    3. The Family Tree on Ancestry has got part of the couple right. The Thomas Hill that died at Macquarie Street 18 Sept 1872 is Rod's man. The Mary Hill that died 16 May 1871 isn't. She died at the General Hospital. In the Book of Deaths (HSD481) she is recorded as being in the Bridget Wing. Name; Huxley ux Hill, Mary, Age 42, RC, F.S., Date of Add: 9 Jan 1871. Disease; Carcinoma Uteri, Ship; Maria, Date of Death: 16 May 1871, Where born; Cork, Trade; Servant. Rod's Mary Ann continues to elude identification... 1. [AUS-Tas] Huge number of Lands Titles maps online via TAO
    2. Mike Hurburgh via
    3. Thanks for notifying us of these latest releases. Great collection of plans from the original Lands and Surveys Department of which James Sprent, as Surveyor-General, was the officer in charge. This was not the Land Titles Office, a different entity which did not exist at the time - it came into being with the Real Property Act of 1862. Land Titles relied on the Lands and Surveys Department to provide it with maps and charts used to compile the survey plans lodged in the LTO. Some notes on these survey plans - The Index Plan is not available in digital form. Part of the description of the collection is incorrect - it states "The maps include street names and landholders." The names on the maps are of the ORIGINAL GRANTEES, not necessarily the landowners at the time of survey. There are quite a few notations that have been added later, some in pencil, some in ink, latest ones in red ink - eg see map 63 - the note on the site of the gaol is dated 1967. Other notes around the Hospital site refer to acquistions in the name of "HM the Queen" - Elizabeth the Second! These were obviously "working" maps for some time. Note also that the names and alignments of some streets have changed. Some of the maps are labelled incorrectly - eg map 17 is labelled "Hobart Rivulet" but the map clearly and correctly says "Domain Rivulet". Pages 40 and 41 are out of sequence in the list - they are at the bottom of the page. Some parts seem to be missing - I have (illegible) copies of a previous release which are not in this list (both Old and New Wharf areas). -- Regards Mike Hurburgh --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! 3. Hi Rod , Not much help but an elimination of Mrs Mary Hill living at 251 Macquarie Street. A death notice 22 Oct 1901 in the Mercury states - MILLHOUSE.-On the 20th October, 1901, at her sister's residence, 251 Macquarie street, Margaret Susan, the dearly be- loved wife of Richard Alfred Millhouse, of Fork Creek, Huon-road, in the 40th year of her age. Funeral will leave the above address This Day, at 2.30, for Cornelian Bay Cemetery, when friends are respectfully invited to attend. This Margaret Susan was a Cuthbertson - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-38p361j2k She was born to a James and Maria - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD-1-8-p174j2k The sister living at 251 Macquarie Street was Mary Ann born 1854 - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-5-p118j2k and married to Richard Charles Hill - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD37-1-38p254j2k This appears to be his birth in 1860 - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-7p285j2k So from that I think you can eliminate her from your hunt for your Mary Ann. 3. Hi, Just wondering if anyone has a photo of the old St Mary's church in Stanley. On the Net I can only find a picture of the new one. Thanks Wendy

    1. [AUS-Tas] Kingborough Magistrate's Book
    2. Maree Ring via
    3. Hi All, Joyce Purtscher has done it again! Congratulations, Joyce. Calling it her 'little book', "Notes from the Kingborough Police Magistrate Letterbooks 1855-1875 and 1873-1888 concerning charitable allowances" has now been published. It contains amongst other details, the ship to the colony, ages (sometimes doubtful), children's names and ages, addresses and circumstances of poverty. There are many ex-convicts named. If you do find an entry relevent to your family/research, Joyce suggests that consulting the records from TAHO, POL 394/1 and POL 395 (respectively). Happy hunting!
