    2. Elaine Hanford via
    3. Patricia, there is a bit of info at the following website: http://www.tasmaniantimbers.com/settlement.html November 4th 1804, Lieutenant Colonel William Paterson, and a fleet of ships HMS Buffalo, the HMS Lady Nelson, the Francis and the Integrity, entered the Tamar heads on the north coast of Van Diemen's Land, with a party of 181 including 74 convicts. On navigating the Tamar River Paterson's ship the HMS Buffalo, was blown ashore in a gale at Low Head, onto Lagoon Beach. Paterson was to establish a settlement at Port Dalrymple. so the question would be: which ship might have transported John Coughlan ? cheers, elaine TAS Descendant in Reno, Nevada On Sunday, January 11, 2015 1:42 AM, Patricia Hobman via <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> wrote: I would like to know if there is a definitive list of the convicts that arrived in PD with Lt Patterson in 1804? I understand that John Coughlan was one of the convicts (Irish Rebel per Atlas 2) but would like to be sure of this. Also, Elizabeth Donally Daniel (Clarke) Atlas 1, who became his wife in 1813, arrived there some time between 1806 and 1813, possibly with 3 children. Has anyone found her on any list as yet? 3. Hi Don, As they were cremations it is probable that the wife took the ashes and either kept or disposed of them privately, in which case there would be no record. Possible that the reference to Southern Memorial Cemetery is a mish-mash of Southern Cemeteries & Mornington Memorial Gardens, covered by Millingtons. Millingtons lists all five cremations, but not what happened to the ashes. 3. Sorry Betty - Rebecca Annie May Lyons died 26th August 1878 - she was listed as a printer's child in both certificates. Sorry - I really thought I'd located your Annie Rebecca! I am just working through them. I can see that I made a mistake with May Ellen Louisa Lyons. It is, as many of you said, a different name. I had thought it was a Lyons. Annie Rebecca is the same person who married John Newcombe and died at Tamworth in NSW. Her marriage registration shows that she was born in Hobart, Tasmania and a spinster aged 29. Her father was Tom Lyons (deceased) and her mother was Anna Rebecca Langdon (deceased). As we all know people who provide this information often make mistakes. I went through the baptisms for this period in the Catholic Church for an Annie Rebecca but couldn't turn her up. Annie had two children before she married John Newcombe - they were Daisy and Albert. I can't find anything about them either. I am not connected to this family but somebody has asked me to look for her as she has not been able to find anything for a number of years. On ancestry.com a family member from NZ says that her father always said they were related to Joe Lyons, ex PM. Thanks again everybody. 3. Thanks. Yes, I have both the NSW Death Certificate and the marriage Certificate. I notice in the marriage registration that she was married in the Presbyterian Church. Maybe I should check that out. The family told me that in a family books it says she was born in Hobart on 2 September 1879. There is another date given which 6 September 1880 but not sure what this means. Father Hennebry baptised her. In the Catholic baptisms I found Phillip Hennebry for that time. He seemed to baptise adults around then but later on also baptised children. I haven't checked out that notice in the SMH as I didn't realise I could do it on line. I will check now. Thanks again. 3. Thanks so much everybody for your responses. 3. Ellen Louia Harriis (Lyndskey) was born out of wedlock in 1878 . Parents Thomas William Harris and Ellen Kelly. Her surname was later changed to Lyndskey. She never married and died in Hobart in 1961 her father must have been Lyndskey and there are some listed in Taslink. >From Descendants of Willism Harris 1828 to 1900 (Google) It all fits for the child you found but not for her marriage in NSW. A bit of a mystery! 3. In Bettys first post she identifies May ELLEN LOUISA Lyons as being born on the 29 September 1878 with a case number 2901. In the online St Joseph's Orphanage details I found, the girl directly below Annie Lyons is ELLEN LOUISA Lynskey with same case number 2901 ? with the same birth date as well? One in the same girl? She's recorded here like Annie Lyons in the Hobart LC records - http://stors.tas.gov.au/LC247-1-37 page 95 towards the bottom. There is a small piece in the "Tasmanian News", 24 April 1891 that goes - Provided For.—A child named Ellen Louisa Lynskey, aged 12 years, was sent to St.‘ Joseph’s Orphanage for a-period of four years. Her father is dead and the mother cannot be found. The order was made on the application of Mr George Judge.
