    2. Janet Miller
    3. Hi again list My illustrious Convict ancestor (Cockerill) , while working for the Government, altered the sentence of a convict named Furniss Grafff from life to 7 years. The Powers that be,  thanked him by sending him to Macquarie Harbour   then on to Bothwell where he met my gg grandmothert , the daughter of a free settler, and well the rest is history. I have put plenty of meat on the Cockerill bones but over the years have been interested in the fate of Furniss but can find little on him. He supposidly married Susannah Thomson in 1831 and died in 1851. . I just thought it would be interesting to slip inside the "Courgage To The Last" book I printed on the Cockerill line. We will never know why Henry Mylam Cockerill altered the sentence  or even how they met but it would be nice to put an ending to his story. Cheers Janet --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

    3. Thank you, Peter. This puts the one single page I have of this resource into perspective / context and there are lots of recognisable names on the few pages I've looked at! Seems to be Hobart first, then Launceston, Breadalbane, Tamar West & East, George Town, etc start at p.60. Pages 68 and 71 (Launceston) have written at the top - February 1828......Lorraine -----Original Message----- From: Peter Oakley Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2019 2:15 PM To: AUS-Tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] CSO1/1/198 - so called Children's Census Hi All, Just a heads up that what I refer to as the Children's Census is now available online - https://stors.tas.gov.au/CSO1-1-918 I think it was taken in 1827 and listed children in the various districts at the time. 3. Further to Maureen's post, the National Library is planning to add to its web pages with one detailing what has been digitised, progressively. Its not there yet. They have digitised two series of use to family history researchers - PCOM2, prison records (see here: https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/560797 ) and HO26, Criminal Registers https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-728075871/findingaid?digitised=y . Click on where you see images. I personally haven't used these, sorry, co cannot give a 'how to' lesson. Here is the page for Admiralty records - by no images, you see that they haven't been digitised yet. https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-732027610/findingaid#nla-obj-732028241 And the all-important Colonial office (with despatches to and from the colonies - can't wait for this to go up: https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-728202615/findingaid Regards Malcolm -----Original Message----- From: Maureen Martin Ferris <maureen.ferris@outlook.com.au> Sent: Monday, 18 March 2019 5:42 PM To: aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] Re: AJCP Records Hi all, RE AJCP records. 3. Hi all, RE AJCP records. I'd like to inform everyone that I came across it while searching the National Libraries website - so I have no idea what or when reels will be digitized. To all you asking me questions, sorry I have no idea. Cheers Maureen Martin Ferris Curator, Genealogist & Historian Little Swanport, Tasmania ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    2. Hi Maureen, Havent got a clue what to do with it. I have always wanted to use these records though. I went into the Home Offce page but the refernce I need isnt available,, ie The Roll 91, class and Piece number HO11/13 page number 160, British Convict Transportation Registers 1787-1867 database, I need according to the Founders and survivors, Website, gives the reference from the Joint copying project, doesnt seem to be mentioned,in the databases you have sent. Not for the year sI need at least. How will I go about obtaining that one. Do you have to send to Queensland, or does ones local library already have them. As i said I have never sent for anything but have thought about doing so for many years, out of curiosity to see what extra can be gained. I need William Wells, from the Triton, or, the reference number above is what I need for him. I hope to pick up any clues other than what is available on libraries tasmania online. Thanks for some advise. 2. What a wonderful fine, thanks Meryl and Maureen you have done it again. I uses these records in the Hobart Library for years on microfilm, film after film, when I was researching my Private Edward Murphy of the 99th Reg. of Foot. I did most of his story for my book from these War Office pay sheet records. It took me ages to work it out, but it was well worth it. I had all the books from the A.J.C.P. and used them all the time. When the big decision came to choose which books I had to leave behind when I moved to Cairns and these were one of them. To see them come up on line yesterday was wonderful (timely too as I had just return home from a stint in hospital) I don't seem to be able to bring up the W.O. 12 for the 99th, when I put his name in the search it came up that their was an unexpected error had occurred, what am I doing wrong or am I expecting too much?? Even so its good just to look at it up there in front of me. I just need a little bit of help. 3. Hi Listers, I think "casa nova" means "new house" in Italian. Perhaps the original builders were European? Marg. 3. Hi Malcolm A quick glance at Trove indicates that there was a house called Casa Nova on New Town Road in 1839. The Colonial Times of Tuesday 19 February 1839, page 3, carries an advertisement requiring a reply to Mrs Garrett, Casa Nova, New Town Road. -----Original Message----- From: Malcolm Ward Sent: 18 March, 2019 10:46 AM To: aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] Casa Nova, Hobart Hi Listers I have a letter addressed by a gentleman to his wife, addressed as coming from 'Casa Nova' in Hobart Town, in 1832.
