Just to repost my Tassie Surnames: LORING - John Clement and Caroline Jessie (nee BUTLER) - married and some children in England, other children in Hobart - arrived Tasmania 1857. John Clement was a long-time Sergeant of Police in Hobart, until his death in 1882. SULLIVAN - John Joseph (married Alice Emily LORING, daughter of above) - parents unknown at this stage. John born Tasmania, possibly Hobart, anywhere between 1867 and 1872. May have found him in Queen's Orphanage in 1873, with two sisters - but can't prove this John is my John Joseph. Family story says he was put in an orphanage when mother died and father couldn't / wouldn't look after children. John I've found was put into care by father after mother died. John Joseph became a Master Mariner. Died Victoria 1926. His ancestors are my real stumbling block.
