    3. I'am trying to verify the birth details of James Sylvanus WHITWORTH. Suposed to have been born in Hobarttown about 1847/1848. James marriage cert (Vic) in 1872 states that he was aged 24, bachelor & carpenter. His father was James WHITWORTH, Draper & his mother was Mary Ann DAVIS. James remarried in NSW in 1882, aged 34, bachelor, a musicial & his parents are listed the same. I have come across a large WHITWORTH family in Hobarttown, but no son by the names of James is listed. 1. [AUS-TAS-SURNAMES] Presnell Family
    2. Norman W. Long
    3. Hi, I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on any of the family of WILLIAM PRESNELL who came to Australia as a convict on BARWELL in 1798. He then went to Norfolk Island where he was 'married' to ANN FOWLER. They, and 3 children, then went to Tassie on the City of Edinburgh. Two of the children were ELIZABETH and THOMAS but I am unsure of the identity of the third. They also had a fourth child, SARAH, probably shortly after their arrival in Tas. Several of William's relatives later followed him to Tasmania. These included his 86 year old mother, also SARAH, and brothers and nephews who included THOMAS, JAMES, JOHN, ABRAHAM and WILLIAM. If anyone has info on any of these people or their ancestors or descendants or other members of the family I would welcome the opportunity to compare notes. Regards, Sharon.

    1. [AUS-TAS-SURNAMES] Newman, Jacobs, Green
    2. Norman W. Long
    3. Hi, I am looking for information on ancestors and descendants of RICHARD NEWMAN and MARY ANN JACOBS. They were married in Fingal in 1861 and had 14 children. They were mostly born iaround the Fingal and Portland areas. I have very little confirmed info on Richard. His name is given as JOHN on his marriage certificate but it is Richard on all of the other documents that I have seen. I believe he, or perhaps his predecessor, came from England. My grandmother claimed that the original Newman who came to Australia was sent here because of his liking for gambling and drink. Mary's parents were ISAAC JACOBS and MARY ANN GREEN. I do not have any information on their origins. There was a Mary Ann Green who came to Australia as a convict on NEW GROVE in 1835 but I am not sure if this was the right one. If anyone can confirm or refute this I would be very happy to hear from them. If anyone has info on Isaac and Mary's origins or descendants I would also love to hear from them. Regards, Sharon Long.
