Hi Have you tried regards Faye
Hi Team, I have recently being given the following information: "In the Masonic Hall in Launceston and in the booklet "Centenary History of St Johns Lodge 1843-1943 are a portrait and a photograph of Alexander Rankin, First Worshipful Master. " I have tried to contact the Masonic Hall by phone but I get an answering machine. Plus, I have not received any reply to the messages I leave on the machine. So I am looking for SKS to help me make contact. Does anyone on this list have contact with the Masonic Hall from a Genealogical point of view? Or in fact any contact at all so I can talk to someone. What I would like to find out is: Where can I buy a copy of the book identified above? Does this Photo and Portrait exist? Can I get a copy of the photo and perhaps a photo of the portrait? Is there any other history of Alexander RANKIN available to the public from the Masonic Hall? This Alexander RANKIN is my paternal gggGrandfather. TIA Rade - Melbourne
Dear Sharon, Have been off-line with a dead modem for over a week. Have just seen your message. The History Room in St Helens has a file on that family. Same across it in my capacity as a volunteer. Unsure how much information is in it. The History Room will do research for a nominal $20.00 plus costs for anything over 10 photocopies. Hi Margaret Here is a thought. From Colonial Tasmanian Family Links database: Mary Ann BURCHELL married William DAVIS and had a child James DAVIS b 1846 in Launceston. There is a death of a William John DAVIS 1846 in Launceston. Just as an example, there are other William DAVIS deaths. Then, as you probably already know: Mary Ann DAVY married James WHITWORTH in Bothwell, Tasmania in 1847. Note DAVY versus DAVIS in this database. This couple went on to have 11 kids. So if your James was of this previous marriage he may just have acquired the WHITWORTH name by the second marriage. Clearly all details are not exactly accurate but it is another thought you may wish to pursue. Hi Barbara, I live in Victoria, Aus. and I am afraid I have not been to Tassie either so do not know exactly where Green Ponds is. I do not know if the inn still exists. I have attached a sheet sent from another researcher which lists some references to John Presnell and his family which you may find informative. Although it says there were 5 children I only have 3. I do not have any info on the one from your family - Edward. The 3 i have are Christiana, William and John (jnr). Do you know who the other one was? I have a great deal of info on the descendants of the 3 children I do have. If you are interested I can send it to you. It was supplied by another researcher, so I have not checked the accuracy of it all. Do you have any other info on Edward, such as birth ,death, etc, or his descendants? If so, I would be very interested in obaining a copy. I checked the copy of the Tas Presnell records and found their marriage and Ann's death. If you have her birthdate and parents that would also be good. John Snrs mother, Sarah, came to Australia in 1822 at the age of 85. Imagine that! I am a descendant of one of her other sons, William, who was sent to Australia as a convict in 1798. Several of the family later followed him here. If you would like any info on these other Presnell's, please also let me know. I have some sheets on some of them similar to what I have attached as well as many descendants. Note: because your email address didn't work, I have added a copy of what I was going to attach below. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards, Sharon. JOHN PRESNELL Senior & Junior (1) John Presnell arrived per Midas, Watson Master, on 12 January 1821. (CSO 1/79/1760 HTG 13/1/1821 P. 2c1) (2) In a Memorial to Governor Arthur, dated 8 February 1825, John Presnell supplied the following information (a) Governor Sorell granted him 300 acres of land which Presnell located at Sorell Springs. He was granted 500 additional acres in 1831 and 1832. John Presnell and his wife Eleanor made further applications for land and these were unsuccessful. (CSO 1/79/1760). (3) John Presnell was licencee of the White Hart Inn, Sorell Springs from 18221828. (Hobart Town Gazzette 5/10/1822 Tasmanian 3/10/1828).
