    3. Dear Maree, What is the title of this book, do you know? The James Clark family were talking about putting one out, but I have heard nothing since, and very few of them have ever traded pertinent information with us. Just a couple of rumours. Are you in contact with Rose Murtagh? She and her husband are "cousins" of mine. Kerry is more directly related to the McCallums than me. Two Of Hugh & Harriet McCallum's daughters married into our families that I know of. Rose may have more. Leilah May married Eliab Browning, whom Rod Hill's (contributes to this list) wife is descended from. Lavinia Mary Jane married Graham George Browning, Eliab's brother. They were the children of James Browning & Mary (Dunn). There are also several more in my files that are probably related also. James' mother Ann Murrell, Married John Browning (3 children, only James survived), had relationships with George Laburn (2 children) and William Clark, (4 Children). I am a descendant of William's marriage to Catherine Cantillon after Ann's death. As you probably know, did I say?, James Clark was not one at all. His real? surname was PEAVOR or variations thereof. He changed it after he was convicted of sheep stealing at Richmond. He and my William are rumoured to be brothers. I have done some research on the Peavors, and they arrived here in 1821 on the "Emerald". There are no surviving passenger lists. I have found the children registered to that marriage in London. No mention of our "Boys" who both claimed they were "born in the colony". The John & Jane Peavor family of 7 confirmed children, disappear off the face of the Genealogical map in Tasmania, except for Charles, who took his family to Victoria and his brother John who died there also. I have Margaret, Hugh & Duncan McC's of any spelling marrying in to the Peevor/Clark-Gangell family. I presume they were related. I haven't gone into it that closely. Regards, Wynnette. ----- Original Message ----- From: maz sperling <sperlingmaz@hotmail.com> To: <AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2002 3:21 PM Subject: [AUS-TAS-SURNAMES] Re: AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-D Digest V02 #66 > Hi Graeme and Wynette > Am interested in the Clark(e) book as I am a descendant of these Clarkes , I > come from the Feil side McCallum, line > My great grandparents were Minnie McCallum and Frederick Charles Feil > Hugh McCallum i believe married a Clarke, Minnie's father. > Ta Maree Sperling > > > From: AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-D-request@rootsweb.com > Reply-To: AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-L@rootsweb.com > To: AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-D@rootsweb.com > Subject: AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-D Digest V02 #66 > Date: Mon, 8 Apr 2002 05:00:18 -0600 > > << message2.txt >> > << message4.txt >> > << message6.txt >> > << message8.txt >> > > > > > Interest in surnames: > Feil,Haas,Weeding,Parsons,McOrmond,Whitcombe, Boyd,McCallum, Clark(E), > Britton, Willoughby, Cork, > > > _________________________________________________________________ > MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: > http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx > > > ==== AUS-TAS-SURNAMES Mailing List ==== > Please link your webpages to the Tasmanian Convicts Webring - let's unite!!! 3. Hi Catherine, Patricia Salter, my husband Alan Salter, and Ivy Trott's husband Norman are all descended from John Salter who's brother, Smuggling George was transported to Australia in the second Fleet. He built a house in Parrametta which is now a natrional museum, and then went to Tasmania.. His nephew James joined him in 1825 and his descendants intermingled with the Ransleys, one married a Gittus, and the rest seemed to have married half the population. You may have had this from Ivy Trott or Patricia Salter, both of whom have been researching this longer than I have. Incidentally, while researching I came upon the name HINDS. Have you come across this, as it wasd my name before marriage, and I cannot see where they arrived from. We have also lost three Salter boys after the 1851 census John Salter born 1842 Kentisbeare Devon. Henry Salter born 1844 Kentisbeare William Salter born 1848 Kentisbeare. Could they be in Australia? regards, Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "catherine" <langdonresearch@iprimus.com.au> To: <AUS-TAS-SURNAMES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 08, 2002 10:48 AM Subject: [AUS-TAS-SURNAMES] Tassie research surnames > Hi all, > > I am researching the following surnames > > Butler > Kiddle > Langdon > Kelleher > Smythe > Jackson > Beams > Brain > Salter > Browne > Bumford/Bomford > Burn > Bush > Ransley > Gittus > Grice > Hanley/Hanly > Jessop > Sonners > Lerverton > Neale > Orr > Pidgeon > Reid > Roe > Ward > > Would love to hear from anyone researching the same names > > Cheers > > Catherine Cruse (nee Langdon) > Tasmania, Australia > > Researching : LANGDON, SALTER, JACKSON, GITTUS, BEAMS, FISHER, ORME, BUTLER, KIDDLE, HATFIELD, LANGLEY, GUIVER, BEZETT > > Administrator of the following mailing lists: > > ORME > LANGDON-UK > GUIVER > KIDDLE > BUTLER-AUS > HATFIELD-AUS > LANGLEY-AUS > LANGLEY > SALTER-AUS > FISHER-UK > BEAMS > GITTUS > AUS-UK-LINKS > AUS-UK-LOOKUPS > > To subscribe to a list please send a 'subscribe' message to the name of the list with -L-request@rootsweb.com on the end of the list name. eg ORME-L-request@rootsweb.com > > > ==== AUS-TAS-SURNAMES Mailing List ==== > Link your Webpages to the Australian Families WebRing - lets unite!! > The navigation bar is located at: > Http://hometown.aol.com/romniroser/myhomepage/newsletter.html > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >

    3. Dear Viv, Which Clark's' book are you referring to? We have looked at so many over the years. Be glad to know of one we may have missed. Unfortunately, it is also possible that our Clark was an alias. The name could have been PEEVOR (or anything else for that matter.) He was rumoured to be a brother of James Clark of Ellendale, who was a Peevor.
