Good Morning Listers As from today 10 June 2002 and over the next few days Rootsweb are moving their list servers and other equipment. When the time arrives to move the list servers, operations will cease. As a consequence there will be no mail received on the lists. Rootsweb do not expect to lose any messages during the shut down. The Message Boards are not expected to be affected, but the FTP will, so those people with web sites hosted by Rootsweb you will encounter times where you cannot access them. Hi, Listing again as new info has come to hand. A lot of these events took place in and around the New Norfolk area of Tas. Still searching for past info on James & Eliza Butler (nee Hornedge) who came to Tas in 1852. James was a Pensioner Guard on the Lord Dalhousie. I have discovered just recently that other than the two children I know about, Frederick b1852 and Charles b1858, it would appear that they had one (John), maybe two (Ann) and remote possibilty of three (Elizabeth) more children. John & Mary Anne Butler(Hill) marr1869, were seen as witnesses on Fredericks marriage to Margaret Hill in 1872. Going by the dates, John must have been born in England before the trip out. It would appear that Margaret Butler died shortly after her marriage to Frederick (drowned whilst boating on the Styx River) but still had time to have 4 children (Ann Ada, James Frederick, Margaret Jane & one un-named male). Frederick remarried in 1881 to Susan Clarke b1860. They had 10 children (Joseph, Frank, Frederick, Alfred, Minnie, Roy, Bert, Jessie, Edward & Julia). Shown as witnesses on Fredericks second marriage were Richard and Elizabeth Lillias (Butler). Elizabeth may not be a member of James' family but it is suspicious that she's a Butler, so I am hoping she is Fredericks sister?? I have also been informed that either the Clarkes or the Hills family mentioned here, are from convict stock. Don't have any more information on them. I have added the Heffernan family name because one of John and Mary Butlers 15 children, Mary Anne Butler b1873, married Thomas Heffernan b1866 and had three children; Edith, Thomas & Annie all born in New Norfolk. I am hoping that a Heffernan may see this and have some Butler info they can share. hopefully this mail is not too confusing and someone recognises something in here. kind regards phil b..... rainy qld..... researching: HEATHERS & BUTLERS
For my first message to this list, may I ask if anyone has any knowledge of this family? My GGG Grandfather, William PARKER, married in 1800, so he must have been born in about 1760-80. He is described somewhere as "of Hardwick Court, Glos, and Clopton Hall, Suffolk" AND in the book on the Monumental Brasses of Cumberland I am told that the later place name, Clopton Hall, appears on page 53, where there are also a lot of Parkers. (Can anyone possibly scan for me or send me a photocopy of page 53 only?) In the 1863 edition of Walford's County Families, "my" William PARKER is described as belonging to a "younger branch of the Parkers of Park Nook, Cumberland". So the connection is surely there, but the details are shrouded in 18th century Cumberland mist. In Mannix & Whellan, "History, Gazeteer and Directory of Cumberland" (1847), it is stated that "within about half a mile S.E. of the village is Park Nook, the residence of Chas. Parker, Es. but the property of Alfred Parker Esq." Elsewhere in various gazeteers Parkersd are found at this address at different times in the 19th century. To add a little spice to the Parker-hunt, I've found that someone by the name of Tasman PARKER applied through "P.H.Bell Parknook,Lake River" to rent 500 acres of Crown Land in Tasmania (Applicants For Crown Land 1851-1852). So it looks as though one at least of the Parkers of Gosforth emigrated . . .? I have, of course, much info to share on William Parker's descendants through his three sons Windsor, William, and Joseph, though not as much as I'd like on the latest generations.
