Hello all; I wonder if anyone has an understanding of the "Reward" system? I have an Ann TADMAN who absconded 1 Apr 1852 from Browns River On the 12 Apr 1852 she was sentenced to 3 months hard labour On the 17 Apr 1852 she was at "House of Correction" On 27 Apr 1852 there is an entry on her conduct sheet which reads "Gazetted. Reward £1." On 19 Jul 1853 the entry is "Will be recommended for a ticket of leave when reward is paid" She got ToL on 30 Aug 1853. Could anyone throw any light on how these Rewards worked? Did she have to pay some sort of fine or bond after absconding and being re-captured? Any thoughts welcome. Ian Preston Canberra
