I have to agree - how ever I have a slightly different view on it. I do not consider the Archives Office as commercial research. It is not as if you can get the information from anywhere else - they are the only place to get copies of the convict records. They are not researching for you - they are merely being a copy facility (which other members of the list offer to do for you also - does that make all of those people commercial researchers ?) I would however take offence to having to read emails from every man and his dog advertising their services. People competing against each other. There is no competition for the Archives Office, but it is important for new researchers and those out of state and country to know where to access these records after all we are all on this list to try and find information about our convict pasts.
