Name: William Presnell (Prisnoll, Presnal, etc) DOB: c1765, England (No records found) Offence: 3 counts of cattle stealing and 1 of horse stealing. Tried: Essex Lent Assizes 1797, with Simon Moulds. Transported: Barwell 1798, to Sydney. Sent to Norfolk Island abt 1800-1801 (record not found). Sent to VDL on City of Edinburgh, 1808. Spouse: Ann Fowler, "married" Norfolk Island (record not found). Children: Elizabeth b. 1802, Thomas b. c1804, Sarah b. c1808. There are also some cryptic references to another William and a Joseph in Norfolk Island, and a James Fowler christened in Hobart in 1811. Occupation: In VDL, William was a successful business man in and around Hobart doing, among other things, carting, brewing, running the Eagle Tavern in Argyle St, farming, etc. There is also a possibility that William was married previously in England. Several of his relatives, incuding his mother, came to VDL around 1820 to 1840. One of these was a William Presnell jnr, who may have been a son from an earlier marriage. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has any Presnells at all in their tree, or anyone who has any information at all, as I am very keen to find out more about William and his background, and also what, exactly, the connections to the other Presnells were. Kind regards, Sharon, Melton, Victoria.
