Hi Natalie, Unfortunately (in my experience,) most of the marriage certificates from this period give scant information. They don't usually list the names of the parents and sometimes not even the ages of the couple. When their actual age is not provided the entry usually states either 'full age' or 'minor'. If you want to find the name of the vessel the convict arrived on you can check the 'Convict Permission to Marry' index on the Archives Office of Tas website. (I have checked this out and Patrick travelled on the 'Samuel Boddington'). You can also obtain the convict's records, which will provide the name of the vessel, the date of the trial and where the trial was held. It will also usually provide the name of the 'native place' and sometimes even gives the names of family and where they were residing at the time. There will also be (usually) various other information such as a description of the person and to whom they were assigned. I have found that the amount of detail provided is variable with my convict ancestors and of course you can't rely on it being 100% accurate, but it's better than nothing! Marriage certificates applied for through the Regristrar of BDMs are around $32, but if you have access to microfiche copies of the early Tas BDMs then you can usually obtain a print out of the certificate for as little as 20 cents, depending on the organisation. The copies are not as attractive as the ones from BDMs, but for the price........ Other listers may have some further ideas on how you can obtain the info you want. cheers Diane in Sydney -----Original Message----- From: AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L-request@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of natalie moore Sent: Thursday, June 09, 2005 8:30 AM To: AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TAS-CON] Convict marriage Certificate Hi LIst Could someone please give me an answer re the following: What information am I likely to find on the marriage certificate for: Patrick HOGAN (convict) married Anne LARKIN (free girl formerley BRENNAN) married St Johns, Hobart, Tas., on 8 Apr. 1854. 1854/507.
