Hello Laurence I am not sure what you have checked already or where you are located, but possible sources for looking for John's death include: - Tasmanian Pioneers Index - church burial records held at AOT (a few of these have been published in book form and are available at libraries & genealogical societies) - TAMIOT - but this only lists surviving headstones - convict deaths register (CON 63 held at AOT) - AOT wills index - available online at http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/genealres/idxofwills.htm To see if John left Tasmania, your first port of call would be the Departures Index at the AOT. An updated version of this with more entries is soon to be added to the AOT's website, so keep a look out for it there.
