    3. Dear List, I am new to this list and thought I would mention my first two Tasmanian convicts. John MARTIN was born in Dublin, Ireland around 1821/22 to Jane, and transported to VDL per "Elizabeth & Henry" arriving on 9 June 1845. He had been found guilty of stealing a carpet bag for L1.15p from Mr Tallen at Upper Ormond Quay. He was a protestant shoemaker who was able to read and write. Mary Ann GLEESON was born in Bandon, Co. Cork between 1823 and 1827 and transported to VDL per "Kinnear" arriving on 7 October 1848. She was tried for stealing a gown in Cork City, Co. Cork. She was originally paroled to HMS Anson and by January 1850 was at the Brickfields Depot. She was a RC housemaid who was unable to sign her name. On 18 March 1850 John and Mary Ann were given permission to marry and the ceremony was performed on 8 April 1850 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Hobart by W. Hall. They had the following known children: Mary Anne born 9 February 1854 in Hobart, John born 26 February 1856 in Pontville and James born 22 February 1858 in Hobart. I believe that Mary Ann died on 10 May 1881 and John on 22 June 1891. They were both buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery. If there are any other researchers of this couple I would love to hear from you. Equally, anyone with any further information would be warmly welcomed. Cheers, Melanie Bowral NSW
