G'day, I'm researching a group of political prisoners who arrived VDL per "Lady Ridley" in 1821. One of these is Charles STANFIELD, sometimes mis-spelled STANSFIELD. What I know is that Charles was born c1792 at Barnsley WRY. I have found a Charles STANFIELD died at Clarence, Tas, on 17 June 1875, age 84 (close); occupation "Boatman". The informant was Mary HARRINGTON, daughter of Kangaroo Point. No details of birthplace, etc. RGD ref No.134. I'm not yet sure that this Charles, and Charles from the "Lady Ridley", are the same gent. Having got that far, the GSNT library closed, and will remain so 'til next Tuesday. I didn't notice Charles marrying, or fathering children, but the possibility remains (if these are the one man) that Mary was born in England, and followed her father into exile. Several political prisoners were followed by wives & children. I'm wondering if anyone else is researching the STANFIELD or HARRINGTON lines ? Peter THOMAS Darwin, AUSTRALIA <pmthomas@bigpond.com>
