    3. Greetings All, There is an article in the "Examiner News" to-day, page 21 ""CONVICT RECORDS RECOGNISED The United Nations has recognised Tasmanian Convict records as a significant and irreplaceable part of Australia's History. Tasmanian Education Minister, Paula Wriedt said that the records, held in the Archives Office of Tasmania, had been included on the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation Australian Memory of the World Register 2006. "The register is part of a UNESCO International Programme established to recognise, protect and promote documentary material that records or reflects significant milestones and events in the history of the world" Ms Wriedt said. "It is the equivalent to UNESCO's world heritage list for the natural environment" Ms Wriedt said that the records of the Tasmanian convict system documented the lives of more than 75,000 people transported to Tasmania from the UK and other parts of the British Empire between 1803 and 1853. "These fascinating records are a vital link to our past and it's fantastic that their significance has been recognised"she said. Other records to be included on the Australian Memory of the World Register this year include the Ned Kelly papers held by Victoria's Public Record Office and Convict records held by the State Records NSW."" Three Cheers for our Irreplaceable Ancestors, Ellen
