Dear List I contacted the Manchester Archives and Local Studies to find out how I might access the trial records for Ann Levy who was transported to Tasmania on the "Angelina" with her two children in 1844 and received the following reply:- "We hold the session papers for 27 Dec 1843 for Manchester Quarter Sessions (ref: M116/2/4/11). The papers are not indexed so it is difficult to search through them. We are unable to photocopy them for preservations reasons. I would suggest you contact a record agent who may be able to search the records and transcribe them for you (see http://www.manchester.gov.uk/libraries/arls/agents.htm)." As yet I have not contacted any of the record agents and wondered if any listers have had any experience with these services? Thanks Coralie Sallans
Hi Coralie, My great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Armstrong, also came out on the Angelina in 1844. I can't help you with your query but write in case you come across anything in your Angelina research that might include Elizabeth Armstrong. I would love to learn more about her life and would be very grateful for any extra information. Elizabeth was tried at the Liverpool Lancaster Quarter Sessions and when I applied for access to her trial records was told that the repository housing those records was destroyed during the German bombing of Liverpool in World War II. Best wishes, Marg Watson. ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve and Coralie Sallans <sallans@iprimus.com.au> To: <AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 15, 2005 12:31 PM Subject: [TAS-CON] Trial Records - can listers help? > Dear List > I contacted the Manchester Archives and Local Studies to find out how I might access the trial records for Ann Levy who was transported to Tasmania on the "Angelina" with her two children in 1844 and received the following reply:- > > "We hold the session papers for 27 Dec 1843 for Manchester Quarter Sessions (ref: M116/2/4/11).
