Hello Coralie, Before you approach a member of AGRA and spend perhaps large amounts of money why don't you sign up with one or two lists covering Mancheste, Lancashire and or Cheshire. You may well find that there are helpful listers who will search for you for nothing other than for your sincere thanks or, as in several cases, the listers concerned have offered recprocal help in Australia or Canada . My research has been at the National Archives and local archives in Kent and Surrey where I live, but I am afraid that Manchester is just too far away for me to be able to help you there. One further thought - I have often wondered why all our colonial friends and relatives don't organise a "help-ourselves" service through the good offices of the thousands of young Australian visitors to this country, at least a few of whom might very well find a visit to a records centre or archives office a surpisingly interesting and enjoyable experience. If you want to pay them for their efforts then perhaps some Aussie dollars into their account at home would be a welcome thankyou. Best wishes, Jim Halsey
Hi Jim, I think this is sound advice and will definitely to down the "list" path. I have received an enormous amount of help from other lists. Have no one in mind who is in England at present BUT I certainly want to go there one day :) Regards Meg ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Halsey" <jehalsey@gmail.com> To: <AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 15, 2005 7:04 PM Subject: Re: [TAS-CON] Trial Records - can listers help? > Hello Coralie, > Before you approach a member of AGRA and spend perhaps large amounts > of money why don't you sign up with one or two lists covering > Mancheste, Lancashire and or Cheshire.
