I would like to be able to check the parish records of Richmond Tas..i think the congregational church is the one I want for the years 1834-1865 (approx)...or if these aren't available then any info on this church including monumental inscriptions...can anyone advise me where I might find these please. I am trying to find records of a Harriet Ross born circa 1840 to father Simon Ross (possibly the convict) mother unknown (but maybe Ann Baldock - convict. I have that marriage cert) Harriet married a George Alexander Arnell circa 1858 and I am unable to find any records of these events so was hoping that parish records or burial records may help. Any help would be appreciated Cheers Carol Pratt Melbourne
Hello Carol There is no Simon or Harriet Ross listed in the Congregational Burial Register for Richmond, but there is an Ann Ross d. 6 Jun 1846 age 38, George Ross d. 26 Sep 1851 age 10 and Janet Ross d 3 Jun 1846 age 2 days. There are no Arnells either (nor in the Anglican burial register for Richmond). The existing Congregational Church register for Richmond are held at the Archives Office of Tasmania - baptisms cover the period 19 Dec 1851 to 20 Sep 1915, marriages cover the period 20 Sep 1855 to 22 Jan 1938. Thank you very much for your trouble Trudy. I have had lots of trouble trying to trace this family and every little bit helps here and this at least seems to indicate that Ann died from childbirth complications. Does this burial register list if they are in the same grave by any chance?
