Hi Tassy Convict List : For many years I have been trying to trace information on JOHN ANDREWS born circa 1827. He married in Hobart at the residence of Mrs Shaw in1855. I was in Tasmania briefly at Christmas and copied off the microfilm in Burnie a copy of the records for a John ANDREW which seemed to fit the description of my fellow in regards to birth date. Unfortunately I cannot read all the writing as the quality of the record on the film was not very good. My John Andrews married Isabella McBeath in 1855. The John Andrew that I have found obtained his TOL in 1849 and his Free Certificate in 1857. John Andrews is not listed on Applications to Marry. Is it possible this could happen if this is my fellow, or was it that he HAD to apply for permission to marry? Also his marriage record has a cross next to his name with "his mark" written next to it but the indent says he can "read and write". Does it seem feasible to cross him off my list? Your comments would be appreciated Regards Josie Andrews (out bush in Qld!)
