    3. Ray, do they have his CONDUCT record? These usually give you a history of the convict's time in the penal system, leading up to his receiving a Ticket of Leave and/or Certificate of Freedom. cheers Jenny Fawcett ----- Original Message ----- From: "raymond.chatfield" <raymond.chatfield@ntlworld.com> To: <AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 09, 2005 8:26 PM Subject: [TAS-CON] Thomas Chatfield > > > > > Can anyone help me trace my ancestor THOMAS CHATFIELD formerly of Catsfield > E. 3. Carol Your man appears in the Annual General Muster 1819, convict portion, (ref Mitchell Library CY957, frame 235, copy now held at AOT under a different reference no) as: Hy Sherwood, (Ship) Hibernia, (Master of ship) Lennon, (tried) Winchester 1818 (sentence) Life, off (stores), and under remarks "Mr Fryett". Fryett also had lifer James Sturgeon per General Hewitt working for him at that time. Richard William Fryett married Ann Southarn Evans in 1818. She was the daughter of Geo Wm Evans, the well known surveyor. So that's a start for you as to where he was assigned fairly early on at least ..... Harry is the 1326th entry in the male convict list and is at frame 235 as I mentioned above. By the way can you confirm for me when his wife Frances Stephenson arrived in VDL? 3. I would like to be able to check the parish records of Richmond Tas..i think the congregational church is the one I want for the years 1834-1865 (approx)...or if these aren't available then any info on this church including monumental inscriptions...can anyone advise me where I might find these please. I am trying to find records of a Harriet Ross born circa 1840 to father Simon Ross (possibly the convict) mother unknown (but maybe Ann Baldock - convict. I have that marriage cert) Harriet married a George Alexander Arnell circa 1858 and I am unable to find any records of these events so was hoping that parish records or burial records may help. 3. A book...Well, how very exciting. Do you know that until the last 2 months or so, I had been tracing Philip's son and grandson Lewis Lyons-Levy junior and senior, I had been tracing "Lyons-Levy" as that was the hyphenation he used, then one day I realised it was Levy!!! Yes a big "Der". In regards to Philip...there were 2 x Philip Levy's in Tasmania at the one time, this may or may not answer your question. Records for Members of the Hobart Synagogue 16th September 1844 shows #2 Philip Levy of Hobart Town and #10 Philip Levy of Liverpool Street. When (my) Philip had his children registered at the Hobart Synagogue on the 17th September, 1844 #3 Lewis, 4 Asher, 5 Isaac Mother Leah Levy Father Philip Levy but further down there is also the other Philip Levy and his wife Mary registering their son Emmanuel. Maybe therein lies the answer? In regards to a copy I have of the wages and contracts...1851 2 October, indeed a Marg Cahill is listed but it is Marg with a tiny little t above so I am suspecting this is actually Margaret Cahill. Could this be correct? Two names down...1852 24 Jany, Bridget CallaghanI know that Philip went to NZ with his family, records indicate Waikato and a family photo was given to me with Lewis Lyons Levy in coronet uniform. Philip died in November 1856, record in the Mercury for 25th November, 1865 top left hand corner "DEATHS". ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trudy Cowley" <tcowley@bigpond.net.au> To: <AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 09, 2005 8:50 AM Subject: RE: [TAS-CON] Philip Levy Liverpool Street Hobart Town Hello 'The Basclains' Welcome to the list. Margaret Cahill was contracted to work for Philip Levy of Liverpool St on 2 October 1851 as a probation pass-holder, for 12 months at £7 pa.
