    3. Hi Trudy I would like to thank you for the work you are doing on this list. I haven't found any of my lot on it yet, but I take my hat off to you and others like you for the service and time you put in. I do some transcribing for a WinBMD syndicate but I don't think it i so difficult as what you are doing. Once again, I thank you and have fingers crossed to see some of my names on your list. I photographed them in November last year and I was disappointed to see how many were now unreadable. Over the Christmas break my husband and I have been adding the headstone photos to my web site. 3. Hi Trudy, I am researching my La*rence ancestry in Tasmania. I am particularly interested in this comment because I have been given information about Ellen Bubb La*rence who was supposedly buried somewhere in Hobart,Tasmania in 1836. There is mention that she has a headstone which contains a bit more information than just her birth and death dates. I have been sent a copy of a letter written to her by her father who mailed it to her from London in 1835. I am hoping that any further information on the headstone will reveal other family information that may be lost currently like parent's names, where she was born, etc. Since I live in Kentucky, USA it's a bit hard to just run down there and take a look myself but if some kind one has a copy of the photograph of her headstone that they would be willing to share with me or give me a transcription of what the headstone says...or tell me where I could obtain the information in question, I'd be ever so thankful. Thank you for your kind help. 3. Hello, I just wanted to send out a huge thank you to all those kind people who have helped me find information on my ancestors Margaret Doyle and John Williams. I really appreciate this and never would have been able to discover their story on my own!! You’re all very kind. One more quick question: Do any of you know if there is anywhere (books, websites etc) that I can perhaps find more information on the ship the John William Dare that she came out on and its journey etc? I tried to google it but came up with nothing. I would just really love more information on her experiences/life etc. Also if anyone has read any great books or come across any good websites that would give me more information on her life as a Tasmanian convict in the 1850’s I would be so grateful. 2. Hi Tamara, The John William Dare departed Dublin 28 Dec 1851 and travelled via the Cape, the journey took 146 days. The ship sailed with 172 female prisoners, three died on the journey. The vessel was a bark weighing 291 ton, built at Cringa in 1832, her master was Thos Walters, the surgeon was Rbt W Clarke. The Convict Ships by Charles Bateson Check the 3 volumes of Log of Logs for further references, there may be a surviving surgeons journal or ships log. 3. I am very keen to make contact with any person with an interest in the convict, James BINKS. He arrived in Tasmania in 1824 on board the "Phoenix" after being sentenced to 7 years for shoplifting. Received C. Pardon in 1841 and married another convict, Ann HODGSON at Launceston in 1844. Lived in Victoria, where he died in the 1890's. Gary in Kialla East, Vic.

    3. Hello Margaret The staff at the AOT are very helpful - though it can depend sometimes on just how busy they are on the day. If you turn up there with the facts you know and are able to tell them exactly what you want to find out you will be assisted pleasantly and helpfully. If things prove too difficult on the day, they can supply you with a list of private researchers. Depending on how much 'delving' you wish to do, you will need at least one day and maybe too - then again, it depends of course on how much information is available on your ancestors. 3. Dear Trudy, Meryl and listers, thank you for this information. I am going to Tasmania in the new year and hope to spend time in the Archives. Any information to make my research more straight forward is very much appreciated. My best wishes to all for a happy and safe Christmas.
