Jenny: Thanks. I'm already in touch with Tasmania Archives, who gave me a copy of various of my ancestor John BERESFORD's records, which is how I picked up the reward. Hi List I am searching for my GGGrandmother, Mary DOBSON. In January 1837 in Melbourne she was giving evidence in court and stated that "I was bought up in the family of Mr NIDYE in Van Diemans Land where I learnt to read, I was christened and I used to go to church." Mary was 21 years old at the time. Could someone on the list who has access to the Tasmanian Pioneers CD please look-up NIDYE for me? NIDYE could be phonetic spelling. I am trying to trace a connection and location. Mary was born in VDL. Also please see if there is a reference to a christening for Mary Ann Dobson or Mary Ann NIDYE. Mary married Charles Ledgerwood who was a VDL convict. Please let me know even if there is no result as there are no NIDYE's in the White Pages. Thank you Regards Jeff Arnold, Melbourne
Leanne, would you be able to provide me with the details regarding my three Irish Convicts, namely James Mahady and Hugh Quigley 1842 and Matthew Mahide, arrived abt.1842 and unjustly hanged in 1848. Should anyone else on this List have any association with any of the above then please drop me a line and I will provide them with a full record of the Trials and Sentencing of each, or else, have a look at the Mahady Web Site, as per the URL included in my Signature below. Westbury is where James and Hugh eventually settled and a daughter of James, Mary, age 26, married William Pledge, age 30, April 1860. BTW, a most comprehensive listing of the Westbury Quigleys is also available, on request, or as per above, via the Family Histories Section. Would appreciate contact by same names researchers, plus any further details and/or information pertaining to any of the above, including any Pledge researcher, even though my own research is a One Name Study. Hi Listers, It's that time of month again; the last Saturday - and I will again be visiting the Archives office in Hobart, Tasmania. I am prepared to do research for people on mailing lists. Any not completed on the last Saturday, I will do during the school holidays in June. The following will be done first as they are extras since last month's visit. If your name is below and you DON'T want me to lookup the convict please contact me this week. BRIODY for Cheryl John Killick for Paul Mary Ann Cranston(e) and Margaret Cranston for Phil John PLOWRIGHT for Tony Mary Ann BRYAN for Roger Edward Simon ARNETT, "Recovery" 1837 for Lexie Thomas Wilcox "Isabella" 1833 for Lexie Robert Whiteway "The Prince of Orange" 1822 for Lexie Sarah CHAPMAN for Sharon FRANCIS NICHOLAS for Sharon THOMAS LAST for Peggy James KNOWLES for Maureen General information Thomas Firman for Bronwyn David Tilbury for Clara James ROWLEY for Wendy If you have a Tasmanian convict you want researched then cost is $1.10 per photocopy and whatever you want to reimburse me for my time. I send them to snail mail addresses and the photocopy has other information written on the back from indents, description lists etc that are not included on the conduct report. I will look up any info included on the Tasmanian Convicts CDROM. Last month I completed about 20 lookups so don't know how many I will get for this month. If you have any other queries especially if I have already done a lookup for you, then please don't hesitate to ask me to do more research for you. Please send me names and snail mail addresses by Thursday, so I have time to organize my research time at the archives on Saturday. Sue Wyatt [email protected] Great chat room for genealogy only www.justgen.com Please feel free to come and join us.
