    3. Hi Anne, It wasn't normal practice to list parents of either party to a marriage. But I have found one case where the parents were named. Sometimes family relationships can be gleaned from the witnesses to the ceremony or the location of the ceremony if not conducted in a church. Pre 1900 certificates are freely available on film at most State libraries. 3. Hello Alison You can search the Tasmanian Pioneers Index by first name. There is only the one occurrence of LIDEY, but there are several for Lidia, Lidietta and Lida. None that seem to match your Lidey BRIGGS though. As she was born c1806, it is likely she arrived free, either as an adult or child, or as a convict (or convict's child). I can't help you with your query but write in case you come across anything in your Angelina research that might include Elizabeth Armstrong. I would love to learn more about her life and would be very grateful for any extra information. Elizabeth was tried at the Liverpool Lancaster Quarter Sessions and when I applied for access to her trial records was told that the repository housing those records was destroyed during the German bombing of Liverpool in World War II. 1. Margaret McLOUGHLAN or McLOUGHLIN, arr VDL 1842 per "Hope"
    2. Peter Thomas
    3. Margaret is listed in the Tasmanian Convict CD as arriving from Dublin in 1842, per "Hope". Margaret was delivered of a daughter in Hobart on 14 June 1844. Margaret's status was convict. Father not recorded. Daughter's name not recorded, but I have a suspect, below. Margaret was described as a 23 y.o. spinster when she married James COSTON, a 31 y.o. carpenter, in Hobart on 17 March 1846. Witnesses were John & Sarah MURPHY. James drops out of view after this. Margaret is delivered of a son, Michael, at Hobart on 18 Nov 1850. Margaret's status is again "convict"; and the father is shown as a blank. The informant was Isaac LIVERMORE, the overseer of the Cascades Factory. Whatever happened to Margaret's husband, I surmise that she wasn't living him with him. I don't know any more about Michael, yet. Margaret COSTON, age 39, b.Ireland, maiden name McCLOUGHLIN, is recorded as having died in Victoria in 1860. Regarding the unnamed daughter, born 14 June 1844: I'm wondering if this may be the Annie McLOUGHLIN who married Samuel MANNING in Hobart on 08 March 1859. The Register describes Annie as a 17 y.o. spinster, but if I'm on the right track, then she was a tad shy of 15 y.o. at the time of the wedding. The Register doesn't give details of her birthplace or parentage, so I can't be certain that Annie is related to Margaret. Samuel was a soldier with the 12th Regiment. They had two children in Hobart before moving to New Zealand. I think this is unrelated, but I see from the TPI that one Margaret COSTON, 26 y.o. spinster, married John WILLIAMS, 45 y.o. carpenter, in Hobart on 20 Dec 1852. This Margaret may be the one who arrived as a convict per "Lord Auckland" in 1849. Just to confuse the issue, one Margaret McLOCHLIN arrived per "Cadet" in 1848. I'm hoping that a Lister will recognize one of these names. Peter THOMAS Darwin, AUSTRALIA <pmthomas@bigpond.com>
