Hi Team & Richard I note that a Priscilla BLACK from Port Lincoln married Alfred Edward RANKIN 6 June 1889. If this is the same Priscilla, mother of Lilly Marion KINGSTON, she got married 6 months after the birth of Lilly. I believe it's the same Priscilla as I cannot find another one in any other SA records. Priscilla had 10 children with Alfred Edward RANKIN. Although married 6 June 1889 her first child by that marriage arrived 17 June 1891, a full 2 years later. Priscilla's second child by that marriage arrived 20 July 1895 another 4 years later. Her subsequent 8 children arrived reasonably regularly spaced in time. Thus she had an abnormal timing for her first two RANKIN children. This of course could be for many reasons but knowing her history maybe there is a story there of another child by CC KINGSTON. Priscilla had moved to Petersburg, SA with her family for the birth of her 4th RANKIN child and had all her remaining children there. Priscilla died in 1926 in Adelaide and is buried in West Terrace Cemetery with Alfred Edward RANKIN her husband. A fine headstone shows the grave. I also note that Trove Newspapers has a court case reported where Priscilla BLACK accused a ship's Captain of assaulting her on 19 Sept 1886 on a trip from Port Lincoln to Adelaide. CC Kingston appeared for Priscilla in the case. I can only speculate on the fate of Lilly Marion KINGSTON but if not put up for adoption immediately I would think Lilly should have been absorbed into the RANKIN family but I see no evidence of that. I have checked all other birth records for the 8 Dec 1888 to see if a subsequent name has been registered but nothing correlates. I mention one other record: Digger - South Australian Births 1842-1906 (c) SAGHS Surname: KINGSTON Given Names: Dorothy Le Fevre Date: 1895-04-03 Sex: F Father: (not recorded) Mother: (not recorded) Birth Place/Residence: North Adelaide District Code: Ade Symbol: IS Book: 561 Page: 444 Cross Reference: This is in a possible timeframe for a sister to Lilly though the mother could not be Priscilla as she gave birth 20 July 1895 to Myra Polly Lavinia RANKIN. The parents are not recorded for the above record. Symbol I & S show that the date given is Indefinite and that there is Supplementary information of an additional, unusual nature in the registration. I pose this record as a distant possibility of another birth to CC Kingston. I would be interested to have a copy of the birth certificate for Lilly for my records. Alfred Edward RANKIN is my great greatuncle. I have a birth certificate for Lilly Marion Kingston born on 8th December 1888 that shows Charles Cameron Kingston as father and Priscilla Black as mother. Lilly was born at Halifax Street, Adelaide. CC Kingston was Premier of SA and was married to my long suffering great, great Aunt, Lucy May McCarthy. He was exhumed recently in an attempt to match his DNA to Malcolm Simpson through Genevieve Dreshler but that proved inconclusive. The tests showed a DNA link to Peter Beaumont from Queensland whose Great Grandmother had worked in the Kingston household. It is rumoured that CCK had a second child with Priscilla Black who live near Port Lincoln. Any information about this rumour or the fate of Lilly and her sister would be appreciated. It is also rumoured that CCK was the father of Albert Augustine (Bert) Edwards born 6 Nov 1888. Bert's father is not known but he displayed similar characteristics to CCK. Jane Lomax-Smith who has researched Bert may have more information. If you can shed any further light on this saga, please let me know. Best wishes, Richard McCarthy Sent from my iPad
