I have done DNA testing on me, my husband, my mother and my grandmother. We went through FTDNA, and are all about to test again with 23andMe because of their current discounted prices. So far we've turned up: 1) A distant cousin who had the same uncommon surname in her Gedcom (Skermer). We very quickly narrowed that down as the area of interest, and sure enough were connected - she'd heard of our branch of the family. She wasn't interested in swapping much information unfortunately, once she worked out we weren't connected very closely. 2) We had someone on my husband's side who had a name change and some other things which had happened in the family, and through various other sources we'd begun to suspect a person in her family was also in our family only using a different name. DNA was one of the methods we ascertained we were right, as her father and my husband matched. We have NOT been able to confirm the actual relationship we'd started testing to find out about, and nothing else so far, but we live in hope of interesting finds in the future, particularly with a few non-paternity events on my father's side (we don't know the identity of either of her grandfathers).
