Hi Ian Yes, it's a bit ambiguous in the index, isn't it. The help entry in the Digger program for this field states: "Birth Place/Residence. This field may contain the child's place of birth or the parents' residence or the informant's residence. Preference is given to birth place, if stated. The mother's residence is used if the parents were living separately." It seems that this field in the index can be based on several pieces of information in the original certificate. Obtaining a copy of the original certificate should reveal all. I haven't obtained a copy of the original certificate for Lilian JACKSON, so I can't tell exactly. Perhaps she was born in the Burra district (exact place not stated on the certificate), and maybe her parents were usually resident at Broken Hill. They are ambigous in that the field combines place of birth and residence. So which is which? Cheers Ian in Perth
