I think the mining families were very mobile, and sometimes births were registered in other colonies/states shortly after moving, or perhaps when visiting relatives. I'm interested in one of those 23 births, re my 4th cousin: Lilian Letitia JACKSON, b 6 Apr 1894 Broken Hill NSW, registered Burra SA 541/375 She died about 18 Sep 1897 at Broken Hill, registered NSW 7771 She was buried 19 Sep 1897 at Methodist Section, Broken Hill Cemetery, exact burial location not shown on http://www.bhcemetery.com.au/, burial number 13736. Her parents were William JACKSON 1865-1918 m 1890 Lavinia RALPH 1874-1949. Lavinia was my 3rd cousin once removed via her mother Anne Maria WILLIAMS 1854-1909. Their other 5 children were born in Broken Hill and registered in South Australia. So, in this case, I think Lilian's birth may have been registered during a visit to relatives back in South Australia (Lavinia RALPH was born at Yelta).
