    3. Dear Listers, Thought would write an open letter explaining that the Fox connection, I do not think is my husband's branch. I have found out the following: Thomas Brooks...first of all had ended up in Tasmania where he and his wife Hannah (nee Ashton) had their first child..a son Joseph Brooks born 30 October 1844 registered at Launceston. I had tried to join their 'SWIMMER'S LIST" similar to this. Was told I would not be able to join up as he was born in VDL. Had no clue what this meant, sent another email and was told it stood for Van Diemens Land...Joseph had been born in that period. Apparently it only became named Tasmania in the 1850s. I am still trying to find out on what ship the little family of 3 boarded and ended up in South Australia as there, the couple had: Elizabeth Ann 1853, Fanny 1855 and Benjamin 1857. Apparently the first wife Hannah died 20th April 1863....and within a few months, actually 29th September of that same year he married for the second time. This time to a Elizabeth Grimley 33 years...she must have been a widow as her father was listed as Samuel Bird...by that time Thomas was 42 years old. The couple had the following children: Samuel 1864, William Warren 1866 and Charles Henry 1868. So it looks as if I got excited over the wrong Brooks family. Sorry that I have wasted your time in doing look ups for the Fox family. Have a lovely day, Sieglinde.
