Have you seen this book? The barque "John" : a voyage to the land of hope Gravesend to Adelaide 1839/1840 / transcribed and annotated by Jean Main (Jean lives in Canberra but I do noit have a contact address) Not sure if there is any relevant information. There are no deaths for James and Elizabeth in SA up to 1915 - thus they probably moved interstate.
