Dear All Although new to this list, I'd like to add some thoughts on the issue of queries and answers. I've been a member of the Cornish-GEN and VIC-Goldfields lists for some years. Replies to queries are sent to the list and also privately. Folk generally send to the list as the reply can prompt further additional research by another lister, rich discussion which allows very experienced researchers and genealogists to offer information, and importantly, the material goes into the archives, for future researchers. I understand that there are issues with the use of direct SAGHS material, and this seems to be the main issue. That the SAGHS material must be respected, so certainly a short note would stop duplication. It would perhaps be useful if the person helped, could reply to the list when the query is answered and perhaps briefly note the results if out of the ordinary, ie, like a mix-up of names, miss-spelling or an issue with transcription.
