Gay, two further avenues for you in Ireland. You say that you are back to Co Wicklow there. There is an active Rootsweb list there that you can subscribe to in the same way as for SAGEN. The most recent post from the admin, who lives in Australia, is for a roll call of names. See below. Secondly, in that post, Cara refers to the Catholic parish registers. These were recently put online for free by the National Library Ireland. Link http://registers.nli.ie/about Good luck. Let us know, Bill -----Original Message----- From: irl-wicklow-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-wicklow-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Cara_Links via Sent: Sunday, 8 May 2016 6:48 PM To: irl-dublin@rootsweb.com; IRL-WEX-ENNISCORTHY@rootsweb.com; wexford@rootsweb.com; irl-wicklow@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-WICKLOW] Parish registers and Roll Call Dear Listers, Last year a lot of Roman Catholic parish registers were put online, and whilst this was indeed a major leap forward for those researching Irish family history, one must remember these are not all of the registers available, but many, months on I myself am left wondering who had success in finding another generation of Irish ancestors or indeed confirming that their ancestors was either born buried or married in the parish that they were supposed to be found in.? I am about to call a Roll Call for my lists, which in time will generate once again a fairly generous amount of mail ( or one would hope so) as the lists have been fairly idle since the demise of Rootsweb’s crash, you may find yourself bounced off the list, through no fault of your own, instead of sending the unnecessary email to complain to your list admins, simply follow the same procedure you first used to join the list and resub yourself to the list. I am hoping that you will take the time to answer anyone to the front of the list, as we do need to generate the mails into the archives for future researcher’s, as some are turning to the social media, but it has been pointed out to me that using this forum, is of actual poor quality, because a simple Google search will not turn the social media research up for you to cross reference so that leaves Rootsweb still with the better forum for researching. If you decide to go behind the list to the person who has asked the said question, please let the rest of the list know you have done this, it does also help, when someone comes across your mail in the archives and they realise that there is a gap in question and answers, but your name is seen as being interested in the said Surname research. Following is a suggestion of what you may or may not like to add to your roll call, BUT the main thing is that although this is only a draft to assist new folk joining or even us oldies, it is of course up to you how much you wish to share allowing as usual that this is Irish research and your cut off should be when your folk left Ireland. Suggested things to add to Roll Call and also some things that need doing always. 1- In the Subject Line please place your SURNAME search 2- Use one email for each change of Surname unless it happens to be where for example Miss Murphy married Mr Jones ( 2 names but one family) 3-Christian name and Surname 4-There siblings if known and birthdates 5-Date of Birth if it is a guess then say so please 6-Where Born:- A- Townland if known B- Parish also if known 7-Wifes Name before Marriage if Married 8-Marriage date if a guess say so please 9- Where did they marry 10-Religion and Occupation If known 11-Parents of each if known and grand parents if known 12-Did they leave Ireland or die there if so when and where 13-If they died in Ireland have you located where they were buried 14-If they came to Australia did they come as convicts 15-What have you located in Ireland and have confirmed, and how have you confirmed this ****Please remember the more you add about your Irish part, the better it is to help you. But in saying this if you only have a name, a town , siblings etc and no nothing more Please still place it in the roll call. This is just an idea to help Cheers Cara *************************************** 1- Only leave in the body of the mail what is relevant to your answer 2- Change the SUBJECT LINE to suit the body of your own Mail to List. 3- ADD YOUR name to the mail there is nothing on the header to recognize who is posting mails and send a reply to the list as well as the poster. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-WICKLOW-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
