Hi Listers , Wondering if anyone on the list knows of a Air Field Farm in S A and where it was or if still is? Helping a good friend find out more if possible. Many thanks in advance, Judy. Many
Never heard of it Judy but sounds like it should be near Edinburgh / Parafield. Only one I saw on google was in Ireland. Do we have any idea of a timeline for this place? Here is a link to Mallala airfield http://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/research/bases/mallala.htm During the 2nd world war the Avro Ansen Mark 2 was used as a training plain at Mallala Airdrome and after the war the planes were mostly sold off to local farmers around Mallala for the bits they could use off the planes. The Avro Ansen which I learnt to smoke in as a boy when I pinched my uncles cigarettes out of the old truck or ute was taken in pieces from his farm at Pinery and donated years ago to the Aircraft Museum at Greenock in South Australia where it was reassembled and now on show. Perhaps the owner of that Museum can help you with info on other air strips in South Australia too. http://www.aviationmuseum.eu/World/Oceania/Australia/Greenock/Lincoln_Nitsch ke_Aviation_Collection.htm http://www.goodall.com.au/australian-aviation/ansonsonfarms/ansonsonfarms.ht ml John -----Original Message----- From: aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-sagen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Judy Holding via Sent: Thursday, 19 May 2016 6:35 PM To: aus-sagen@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AUS-SAGEN] Air Field Farm. I remember a person called Matt Fitzgerald successfully managed a farm on what was W.R.E.property . Which is near Edinborough Air field about the late nineteen fifties. Not shore of the particular circumstances.
