I would like to know if anyone has a copy of the original passenger list for the SIAM, which arrived into Port Adelaide in April 1841 (some sites say on the 23rd and some say on the 25th). I have viewed Diane Cummings site and it mentions 5 SEYMOURS. I suspect they are all from the same family, but were accomodated in different cabins. I have viewed the details at www.familyhistorysa.info. This site provides the following: SEYMOUR Henry Conway, Eliza nee DROUGHT, Thos Drought, Eliz, Ellen, Rbt, Hy, (Chas). My query related to the last named child, Charles. His birthplace is a bit of a brick wall at present. Some say he was born 1841 in Co Galway, Ireland. Civil registration didn't exist there until much later, and the Church of Ireland parish records might have been amongst the many lost in the 1922 bombings. Some say he was born in or near Adelaide, but SA civil registration began in the following year. I wonder why this site places his name in the list but in parentheses. Was on he on board for sure, or is someone guessing? Was he born on board perhaps? All online websites that include him seem to agree he was born in 1841, so on the ship or in Soith Australia are the only options. The SIAM departed London in December 1840. Is there anyone on this List who might have the answers please? Many thanks Kevin Walker
?Hi Kevin, No official passenger list for this voyage has survived. Therefore, the main source is the newspaper passenger list. You can view this newspaper list from Trove and my composite passenger list for direct comparison at www.familyhistorysa.info/shipping/passengerlists.html Select "passenger lists" from the search form drop-down list and enter "siam" in the "ship name" box. The date doesn't need to be filled in. The family had a son Charles but whether he was born on the voyage or afterwards I don't know - hence the brackets indicating some doubt as to whether he was onboard.
