Hi List, Thanks for the challenge Di, my favorite sites - in no particular order: State Library of Sth Australia - http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm early in my research the SLSA website provided such treasures as Mannings List, pics of various family members, and references to books that provided information. State Records - SA - http://143.216.32.39/archivessrsa/t1tbmain.asp this website took me absolutely ages to work out, but once I mastered it I found lots of info and the best part is you can write to an archivist for help and get a reply. Great people. Family History SA - http://www.familyhistorysa.info/ Barry and Maureen Leadbeater's site has grown over the years with much valuable information. Mapco - http://archivemaps.com/mapco/index.htm David Hale has an excellent site here and a wonderful record of various stages of development of Sth Australia. Last resource is a multiple choice - just becauses I can - cemeteries. So much valuable info is obtained from old headstones and not so old also: SAGHS databases - wonderful resources, a good place to start - http://www.saghs.org.au/index.html Centennial Park Cemetery - http://www.centennialpark.org/burial_memorial_search/text/ Australian Cemeteries - Peter Applebees wonderful site - http://www.centennialpark.org/burial_memorial_search/text/ Local Government websites - Look for cemetery info on each site - http://www.lga.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=210#e362 Gravesecrets - Faithe Jones - http://www.gravesecrets.net/ Last one - the most interesting and informative site is the National Library Digitisation of Newspapers section - just awesome information available here - spend more time on this site at the moment than all others put together. http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper There are other interesting sites, but these are the ones to start with - if anyone needs any help with the above pls contact me and I will endeavour to answer your questions. Cheers all Ros
Good morning everyone, I'd like to add some favourite web sites to the mix but all my very favourites have been mentioned - so I'd also like to throw in The Ships List www.theshipslist.com for those not included on Di Cummings' "Bound for South Australia" [my favourite passenger list], Commonwealth War Graves Commission www.cwgc.org for our military heroes who didn't make it back home and the most obvious of all is Rootsweb www.rootsweb.ancestry.com which supports so many "Lists", including this one.
