    3. Hi Folks Time to join in. Although there are lots of favourites, I'm going to try and give something different, in terms of images. Having collected lots of facts on my main families, I realized we had a lot of unscanned images. This started me focusing on collecting images of the family, and also donating images to my country towns Historical Society, the State Library of Victoria, and the Australian War Memorial. It must have been good kharma, as images started to come back, including one of my GG grandfather not long after he and his family emigrated to Australian, taken in 1860. We didn't know what he looked like. Then another GG grandmother from Germany, and so on. So, please think about donating copies of images that you may have of the young men from the Boer War, WW1, WW11 or any of the engagements in their uniforms, during active service. The War Graves Photographic Project, working as a joint venture with the Commonwealth War graves Commission, is supported by volunteers around the world with the aim of photographing every war grave, individual memorial etc of serving military personnel from WW1 to the present day: http://twgpp.org/ The Australian War Memorial holds images of men and women who have served. Look under the tab 'Collection', and type in the surname. http://www.awm.gov.au/search/collections/ Here is a link to my great uncle, to show the page layout. If you double click on the image it blows up to size and gives a clearer image. http://www.awm.gov.au/search/collections/?q=bursill <http://www.awm.gov.au/search/collections/?q=bursill&conflict=all> &conflict=all The digitized Red Cross Wounded and Missing Files on the Australian War Memorial, are under the individual person's record. Fascinating and sometimes harrowing looking at images of the actual documents. Here is the National Archives of Australia Photo Search page: Main search page introduction http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/photosearch/index.aspx Photo image search page http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/PhotoSearchSearch.asp By searching for my father's WW2 records on the National Archives, on the Name Search tab, below, when I downloaded his records, I found the earliest photos of him as a young man, newly enlisted. http://naa12.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/NameSearchForm.aspx This is the State Library of Victoria Picture Collection search page: http://search.slv.vic.gov.au/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?mode=Basi c <http://search.slv.vic.gov.au/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?mode=Bas ic&vid=MAIN&tab=pictures> &vid=MAIN&tab=pictures It really won't be long before all of the State Libraries in Australia come up to speed with digitization, and make their collections available online. You can bet if they aren't yet, the bureaucrats will be working on it behind the scenes. I've also found invaluable links and information on graves which have been photographed, through the links on Australian Cemeteries site below: http://www.australiancemeteries.com/ And when in doubt, take a chance and Google search. It's amazing what can come up. Regards, and happy hunting to all, Rowena in Melbourne
