Georg Heinrich August Heinrich LAUCHS Sunday 21st April 1850 on the barque "Ceres" from Bremen Germany with his wife, two children and mother-in-law. This family's surname didn't changed but a member of each family married in Australia. Heinrich Christian Andreas "Charles"NIEWANDT (Emmigrated to Germantown SA via South Africia.) Arrived Adelaide SA with step-mother on Sunday 21th Apr 1850 on the barque "Ceres" from Bremen Germany. I know they dropped the "T", with the birth of some of the chindren, but I have no idea when the other changes happen. If anyone of the respective families or researchers could help me it would be greatly appreciated. 1. Re: [AUS-SAGEN] Old meadows Church
    2. Christine Anderson
    3. Thank you Kylie, The heritage walk trail has made it pretty clear that the Church up the Hill at Meadows was abandoned due to the long walk to worship up the hill, I did go there a few years back, what an experience. My brother and I ventured to Sth. Aust mainly for my wish to go to meadows where the Australian family first started. We hired a car with a GPS that did not like to work too well, maybe the hills. From Adelaide to Meadows we got hopelessly lost but eventually found our way. We had a meal at a lovely old cafe and a walk around the town, Just wonderful to walk the streets where family would have walked so long ago. The lass at the cafe directed us to the cemetery, wishing us luck with the gate???. Headstones were visible from the road, up the driveway, house to the right, knocked on the doors, place seemed deserted, gate locked. My brother held the barbed wire fence apart while I climbed through , across the paddock to the fenced off cemetery, this gate not locked, spent a while with the spirits of those who had worked so hard in the early days, photos and breath taking view across the valley, back though the paddock, cattle now moved and all around me, pretty beasts but being a city girl I did not feel too comfortable. Back through the fence and back to Adelaide. I was not shot for trespassing nor gored by any beast, I cannot describe the absolute closeness I felt to those families, would love to go back again. Best wished, Chris in Sth. I thought SA listers might be interested David Good afternoon list, When the Ryerson Index is updated on site tomorrow night it will contain in excess of SIX million entries, another milestone. Since 1998 a dedicated team has been indexing whatever notices were available. All past and present indexers can be proud of their achievement.
