    3. Hi Steph, Thanks for your effort. Yes this is my man John Dickerson. And the passenger record looks like it might be him and family. What a pity it does not say names of Mr & Mrs, and children. Warm regards Gay -----Original Message----- Hello Gay, Long time and all that.... Might this be your man? Thinking maybe not, 1878 is a long time after early 1850's. I think you have my email? 1. [AUS-SAGEN] Data Information
    2. Jenny Cooper
    3. Hi, I have been very interested to read the various comments from those who have answered my initial query. What I did not make it clear, was I was considering Publishing in book form a family history for family members who were interested in the project and submitted a lot of personal information for inclusion in the book. I have no interest in putting any data I have researched over the years on the internet. I am well aware of how it can be hyjacked. I had it happen with a book I originally printed many years ago. When challenged the person who had taken the information response was "So, what" It was not a great deal of information and an acknowledgement would have been appreciated. I do not consider myself a professional researcher as I have made many mistakes over the years with my research, hence why I posted the original message. Once again I do appreciate all your comments. 3. No definitely should not include details of living people In fact, even the names should not be included in my opinion. Even with names that is useful information that people can use to steal an identity: names of parents, names of children etc. By default, pretty well every site is supposed to block all those details. However, I find it doesn't always work perfectly and it is worth checking. Obviously in preparing a family history you have to obey copyright legislation. You also have to properly reference every source even when not subject to copyright as a matter of courteousy. With family history books you would normally include full details on the living as it is not normally distributed publicly but only to family members BUT I always check and honour any requests by family members. Some don't even want descendants listed. This is not a matter of the law, and you can't get into trouble for the breach of any law but of manners and respect. 3. Hi I know of no laws. The only thing to consider would be privacy laws when dealing with details of the living. However, they are technically only for businesses and large ones at that. So it would be considered bad taste to include something the living didn't want included on themselves but not illegal. I have always respected people's wishes. Can't think of any law that could prevent you from printing anything about the deceased.
