Hi Listers I am trying to trace the history of my biological father. I know he was married at least once, but not sure if in Perth or Adelaide (but divorced in Perth) to a Phyllis Gwen Higgs (first wife). I believe Douglas was born in Hawker, South Australia on 12 August 1899 but I am suspicious of this date because his death certificate gives a death date of 12 August 1958. He was incarcerated in Yatala gaol at the time of his death. He spent a lot of his time in meetings with the local constabulary and the courts! If possible I would like to know his correct birth date and any marriage details that are available. Thank you John Greenlees
Hi Listers I am trying to trace my mother's siblings. Her parents were Albert Ernest Greenlees and Ruby Emma Greenlees (nee Schunke). They lived at Jetty Road in Glenelg. I believe the siblings were as follows: 1. Maisie 2. Ena 3. Paul 4. Donald 5. Nina - my mother, born 3 Jul 1914 6. Winzor I would appreciate any information you can provide on birth or death dates. Thank you for the valuable help you provide to so many seekers. John Greenlees
Hello all I am tracing my family tree back from NZ through Australia and hopefully back to the UK but have come unstuck. My G G G Grandfather Samuel STOCKWELL is believed to have been born in England c 1825 but sailed to Australia at some stage (perhaps not directly)where he built a flour mill, ran cattle and founded a small town called Stockwell in around 1853. What we are having a great deal of trouble determining is when/where/how he entered Australia. No documents in australia that I have found, detail his place of birth or parents. His son William was my G G Grandfather...and his son Oscar (who left for NZ early last century) was my G GRandfather. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maree

Hi List I am looking for shipping Charles (carl) Monten to SA. He came from Sweden. A article in the Newspaper where Charles was in trouble for stealing of another Swede tells me he arrived abt 1858. It did say in the article that these two men were shipmates and arrived on the same vessell. Charles brother John Monten was also in SA. Any help finding him arriving would be much apreciated. Regards Judy
I am looking for the family of Samuel James Butler (sometime known and James Samuel Butler) He is my Great Great Grandfather. Samuel James was born about 1818 in Cornwell Eng, died in Adelaide South Australia on 10th February 1879 and arrived in South Australia on the 11th January 1839 via the Orleana. He married Elizabeth Fortescue Taylor in South Australia on 30th May 1843. It is thought Elizabeth Fortescue Taylor was born in 1818 in Devon, Eng. - not completely proven. Prior to marrying SJB EFT was married to Robert Hobson and had Robert John Hobson with him. He died 7 Sep 1841 in Adelaide. (It may be the Elizabeth Fortescue Taylor who married George Cadby, a convicted bigamist is claimed by some to be the same EFT - reported by The Old Bailey at http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?path=sessionsPapers%2F18380402.xml ) Husband 1 or perhaps #2 Robert Hobson Birth: Abt 1818 - Sunderland, Durham, England Death: 7 Sep 1841 - Adelaide, South Australia, Australia Marriage: 07 Sep 1841 (7 Sep 1841) - Adelaide, South Australia, Australia Parents: Benjamin Hobson, Mary Donovan Spouse: Elizabeth Fortescue Taylor Robert left EFT a house in Hobson's Place in which SJB lived for the remainder of his life. I wonder if you are related to SJB or if you have any information on his descendants and if there are any other Butler descendants in South Australia. I have corresponded with some descendants (Not named Butler) but have been given info which is not confirming info. Stories differ. I would particularly like to talk with someone who has/is researching the Butler line. Any and all information and contacts would be appreciated. Dennis Grubb Adelaide - South Australia
Good afternoon, Thanks for the reply re this family. Very Helpful. Pam Studd

Hi everyone. I am looking for any information on Di Worthington. All I know for sure is that she married Frederick James Stanley Mead after he divorced his first wife. I expect they married in South Australia as it appears that Captain Mead never went back overseas until after he married Di. Married his first wife in Britain while overseas during WW1, had one child there Freda born 1919 and one Lena Mead 1921 in South Australia. The two girls stayed with their father. Fred died in 1967. Hi Listers As our thoughts turn to Remembrance Day next week, it is timely that Leslie Jones has completed another batch of WWI servicemen deaths. She has now researched those South Australians who enlisted in NSW. The database of more than 6,400 entries can be searched at http://www.ach.familyhistorysa.info/ww1servicemen.html.
