Following a phonecall with NLA today, I learnt that the following website http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home will be closed, within the next couple of months, and the following website http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper will be the main access point for this terrific facility. When you visit this website, remember to explore the many other links on the website [which is constantly being updated]. Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm
Remembrance Day.....on the 11th day of the 11th Month at 11am.................... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance/ Remembrance Day (11 November) marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year Australians observe one minute silence at 11 am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Australian War Memorial will conduct the national Remembrance Day ceremony later this morning. Remembrance Day: This year's ceremony will include a tribute to Australian soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Governor-General Quentin Bryce will deliver the commemorative address at the War Memorial, the symbolic focus of Australia's Remembrance Day ceremonies. The formalities will include the traditional minute's silence at 11:00am, to remember the moment the guns of the Western Front fell silent in 1918. Since 2004 the names of those who have died in war are added each Remembrance Day to the Roll of Honour at the Memorial. It contains the names of more than 102,000 Australian war dead. This year the names of 10 soldiers killed in Afghanistan will be added to the roll. Similar Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held around the country.
Greetings listers This is my first posting on this list and I am not too aware of South Australian links so any help would be terrific. I am seeking information about Gwendoline Beryl Fitzpatrick m/s Salmon born 1918 in Victoria - daughter of John Hy Wm and Maryanne Theresa Veronica Thompson; her first marriage - Gwendoline Beryl was married to Walter Stanley Lambert (who died in 1960) in 1942. She married Thomas Wm Fitzpatrick on 5th Feb 1966 in Gardenvale Victoria and I think she may have died in March 1966 at Kapunda as there is a headstone (though I think the age maybe wrong) Any info about her or Thos Wm would be gratefully received. Thanks in anticipation Robyn
Dear Listers, Have just found an article regarding the death of HARRIET TULLY, she died after 21 years of severe illness in 1874. This seems to have started at the birth of her daughter Elizabeth. Firstly I have been wondering what this illness could have been and perhaps she at times had been admitted to the Adelaide Hospital. Would anyone have the address that I could write to. Many thanks, Sieglinde.
My query has been answered in super quick time, thank you so much! Cheers, Nikki

Hi Listers My great aunt was an Adelaide 'Golliwog Girl' which was a group of young women who entertained at the departure & return of the soldiers in WW2 I believe that thay used to welcome or farewell from the wharf or the train station with singing & dancing Jean
Hi Josie, There is a mention of the Golliwog Club on National Library Newspapers The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889-1931) (about) < Thursday 21 October 1915 - Page 12 COMFORTS FOR MEN IN THE TRENCHES. The Trench Comforts Committee thank the following, who sent in gifts and donations for comforts for the troops at Gallipoli. They were enabled to send to five units last month, which now makes 13 units in all to whom comforts have been forwarded.............................. per Miss Duggan, Golliwog Club, Mile End. This doesn't answer the question but puts the club in a locality for you......
