Hi Folks Time to join in. Although there are lots of favourites, I'm going to try and give something different, in terms of images. Having collected lots of facts on my main families, I realized we had a lot of unscanned images. This started me focusing on collecting images of the family, and also donating images to my country towns Historical Society, the State Library of Victoria, and the Australian War Memorial. It must have been good kharma, as images started to come back, including one of my GG grandfather not long after he and his family emigrated to Australian, taken in 1860. We didn't know what he looked like. Then another GG grandmother from Germany, and so on. So, please think about donating copies of images that you may have of the young men from the Boer War, WW1, WW11 or any of the engagements in their uniforms, during active service. The War Graves Photographic Project, working as a joint venture with the Commonwealth War graves Commission, is supported by volunteers around the world with the aim of photographing every war grave, individual memorial etc of serving military personnel from WW1 to the present day: http://twgpp.org/ The Australian War Memorial holds images of men and women who have served. Look under the tab 'Collection', and type in the surname. http://www.awm.gov.au/search/collections/ Here is a link to my great uncle, to show the page layout. If you double click on the image it blows up to size and gives a clearer image. http://www.awm.gov.au/search/collections/?q=bursill <http://www.awm.gov.au/search/collections/?q=bursill&conflict=all> &conflict=all The digitized Red Cross Wounded and Missing Files on the Australian War Memorial, are under the individual person's record. Fascinating and sometimes harrowing looking at images of the actual documents. Here is the National Archives of Australia Photo Search page: Main search page introduction http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/photosearch/index.aspx Photo image search page http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/PhotoSearchSearch.asp By searching for my father's WW2 records on the National Archives, on the Name Search tab, below, when I downloaded his records, I found the earliest photos of him as a young man, newly enlisted. http://naa12.naa.gov.au/NameSearch/Interface/NameSearchForm.aspx This is the State Library of Victoria Picture Collection search page: http://search.slv.vic.gov.au/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?mode=Basi c <http://search.slv.vic.gov.au/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?mode=Bas ic&vid=MAIN&tab=pictures> &vid=MAIN&tab=pictures It really won't be long before all of the State Libraries in Australia come up to speed with digitization, and make their collections available online. You can bet if they aren't yet, the bureaucrats will be working on it behind the scenes. I've also found invaluable links and information on graves which have been photographed, through the links on Australian Cemeteries site below: http://www.australiancemeteries.com/ And when in doubt, take a chance and Google search. It's amazing what can come up. Regards, and happy hunting to all, Rowena in Melbourne

Besides the ones like Trove that others have mentioned, one I have gotten a lot of information from is the Cornwall Online Parish Clerks Search facility at http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/ . I wish all English counties had as much information online! Another is the National Archives of Australia site. Cheers, Nikki
Hi Bob and All, Me too!, Bob. Also the world connect project website , googling the latter will take you to the website. One may find a another researcher who is working on the same tree as you are. Busy with visitors here dying to get back to my family tree research when things calm down though. Thanks Di for your suggestions re the Wellington Ferry. We suspected that there were records, now to find just where they are! My sister & I are planning a trip to further our research and are doing some homework before we go. Will contact the SA Archives and go from there. Thanks again. with my appreciation Chris. OK then, here are mine: www.ancestry.com I've got my tree up called Merilyn Marsh Stirnet is good but it costs to join. Scotland's People is invaluable for Scottish ancestors. It has pay per view but it's cheap. Google Books is wonderful for finding information about medieval ancestors. Foundations for Medieval Genealogy - ditto Genealogy.com for particular surnames. Rootsweb for interesting trees. Also mailing lists for particular surnames and places. I've subscribed to about 20 to ask questions of other listmembers with quite a bit of success - including the AUS-SAGEN list, whose participants have been very generous. Irish Family History Foundation, obviously for Irish ancestors. Geneanet. Tribal Pages. ItalianGenealogy.com Best wishes and Happy New Year to all. Hello there, My favourites are Trove, Familysearch, NSW BDMs, Papers Past and for people with family in the north of England, Durham Records Online are fantastic. Cheers Gwyneth Sydney Searching: Richardson, Bird, Hall in SA
Hi Ros and List The main things I get from blogs are links to new places to search for ancestors and the wonderful stories of our ancestor's lives which I just love. http://geniaus.blogspot.com Geniaus writes about her own research and using web 2.0 for genealogy. It's a high quality Australian genealogy blog. I've found ideas on where to search, what genealogy events are happening and reviews of events. Her website reviews are concise, informative and technical (not based on likes or dislikes but technical and content merit) www.geneabloggers.com Geneabloggers is a group of genealogy bloggers who write about their own research and all things genealogy! They seem to be mostly American blogs but I've found this useful in that everyone has a different perspective of genealogy and different goals so I'm learning different tips and tricks all the time and always trying to improve my own genealogy blog, http://kyliewillison.blogspot.com Kylie :-) Ros Dunstall wrote: > Hi Kylie, > I had a quick look at Geniaus and Geneabloggers. Gee 20 Listers have responded so far. That means about 380 still to reply. I am happy to excuse Mike Sangster - dear man. He is having a hard time at present, and, it is likely there are others who cannot respond, for various reasons, and that's ok. Ros and I are delighted. We would really love to see replies from another 200. Steph and Jill and Andrew - where are you. some stories too please Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm
I particularly asked that all replies to this challenge be placed on our list, so that we can all make wonderful discoveries. Thanks to those who have also emailed me. My Mail box is getting rather full. so - maybe list only. Thanks. Chris Cook wrote: .Thanks Di for your suggestions re the Wellington Ferry. Greetings all. Thanks so much for your interest. We now have 12 replies from about 400 possibles. Glad to here from you Bob. Perhaps some of the more difficult ones could be added. Anyone had any success with german, or italian or spanish, and america links ??? About eight years ago, I discovered what seemed to be a good link - a chap researching families on the Island of Pico, Azores. He suggests that if we send him proof of our families coming from there, and he would verify the information, and get back to us. am still waiting. Greetings. I have just prepared a General History for the THE WELLINGTON FERRY I've just visited http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/titles?state=South%20Australia searching for WELLINGTON FERRY I saw that there were 1,086 results for THE WELLINGTON FERRY so I've created the following, using about 29 entries, up until Saturday 31 January 1852. VISIT - http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~dicummings/WellingtonFerry.htm I also remembered the name of the lovely lady who has been researching this topic - Corrine Thompson I am pretty sure she is also a member of our list, Hope this inspires you to look for more Cheers from Di Cummings of Melbourne http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/fh/passengerlists/BoundforSouthAustralia.htm

Outcome being on line births are to 1910 , on CD 1918. Hope this helps Bye MargM Beautiful Central Coast of NSW

Hi again. Just as I was logging off, I spotted the following: CHITILA, Romania (AP — Everyone curses the tax man, but Romanian witches angry about having to pay up for the first time hurled poisonous mandrake into the Danube River on Thursday to cast spells on the president and government. Romania's newest taxpayers also included fortune tellers — but they probably should have seen it coming.
